Hotel Suggestion for London

Hello Travel Forum

I just got back yesterday from spending 8 wonderful days in London and wanted to let you know about the Hotel that I stayed at. The Hotel Montana is located on Gloucester Rd in South Kensington. Being a solo traveler I was looking for a hotel that was centrally located, close to shops, restaurants and most importantly the underground.

All the hotels listed in the RS London book were all sold out being that it was the Thanksgiving holiday. I found the hotel to be perfect for what I was looking for. Maybe the décor was a little outdated but the rooms were clean, beds comfortable and breakfast was offered at the hotel should you want it.

Being so close to the underground was a big plus for me since I would be using this tube as a main form of transportation during my stay.

Just wanted to share this with the forum as I know when looking for Hotels it can be confusing with so many options available out there.

Happy Travels :)

That's good to know! I've stayed in that area at the Radisson a couple of times on various tours and love walking the mews in that neighborhood. The Radisson is nice, just more hotel than I want!

If you think you might return to that location and are interested in some DIY walks, the "A Lady in London" blog has a terrific route that ends at Atherstone Mews which is right behind the Montana and the Radisson. I just followed her directions in reverse, lol.

Did you have a single room? Did you have one with a private bathroom? The website states bathtubs. Did your tub also have a shower you could stand up to use? Did you try a breakfast while you were there? Thanks for this suggestion. I am always looking for this type of hotel while I am in London.

I booked the classic single which came with a twin bed and an attached bathroom that had both a stand up shower and tub. To be honest the bathroom was very spacious. When booking be careful that you don't end up booking the room with a shared bathroom (unless that's what you want). I did see a few people go back and forth from their rooms to use the shower in another room. I'm sure it's cheaper so if someone is on a budget it could work for them.

I tried the breakfast once- I opted for the continental buffet but they do offer a traditional English breakfast option and hot breakfast such as eggs, porridge etc. The choices were simple and I found that I could do better outside the hotel so I did not return. They also have an Indian restaurant onsite as well that I heard is very good.

Hope this helps!

On my walks near the area I came across so many mews and courts it was wonderful. Especially in central London when your on a busy street like Regent or Oxford that can get really crowded with tourists and shoppers it was a delight to find a small alley way lead to what seemed another world. London was so much fun- I already have a list of things I need to go back to see and do.

One more thing to add was that my room had heating and air conditioning which is a huge plus. I know with the heat wave they had this summer most hotel rooms did not have the AC option but it could be super helpful especially at night if you should find yourself in London in the summer and in the same situation.
