Hotel Recommendations near Highclere Castle

I think most people, including me, have visited Highclere as a daytrip from London.

I can't help with a hotel suggestion, but I will say Highclere does not disappoint! We were there in 2017 at the height of Downton, but yet it definitely wasn't crowded and we could meander though the castle at our leisure. Not sure if that's still true. Enjoy your visit!

I visited Highclere Castle in 2022 and stayed at the Canarvon Arms. It's only about a mile from Highclere. I walked to and from the castle during my visit. If you arrive in Newbury by train, you will need to book a cab to take you to the hotel. I used Ave Cabs. They were very reliable. I would book in advance, the driver said they get very busy on weekends. I also had a wonderful Sunday roast in their restaurant.
