Hotel Recommendations for London

We are a family of 3 who will be in London in July. Please give me recommendations for London. Also, which area do you recommend? I am more concerned with Hotels than actual location. I am looking to spend no more than 250 USD per night.

That’s really a personal preference.. We always stay in S. Kensington near the Gloucester tube stop since it is easy to reach from the airport. Our hotels of choice are the Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt or Rydges, although there are a number of hotels in that area.

Consider taking a look at the Premier Inn chain. They have lots of locations, so with A/C, some without. They seemed to be very popular with UK families when we stayed.

When we were looking for cheaper accommodations in London we looked into Premier Inn but found they only have double rooms, not triple. We needed two triple rooms for our extended family. We found Travelodge to be perfect: clean, comfortable, cheap and triple rooms with the option for breakfast.

Have you already looked at, and discarded, the places in the RS London Guide? What exactly are you looking for in a hotel? I'm only asking because I always choose location first, then look for someplace that can accommodate me. We have had good luck in the Gower Street area. Whatever, I am thinking it is getting late to have much of a choice in July-prime traveling season. Good luck.

Last August we stayed at and enjoyed Novotel Tower Hill. Great location adjacent to the Tower Hill tube station and a block from the Tower of London. We are also a family of three and there was a queen bed and a sleeper couch in the hotel room. I cannot recall the price, but it was a good package deal through Orbitz, air/hotel.

Ashburn Hotel in S Kensington is our go-to every time. It’s a refurbished Victorian townhome so not many rooms. It has a/c (we were there September 2016 during a heatwave so that was so necessary). Close to laundromat, Waitrose, Boots, restaurants....and most importantly a few blocks to the Gloucester Road tube station. Felt safe at night, in a quiet area. Affordable!

Remember, you will hardly be in your room at all.

Rick Steves guide book "London" 2018, is quite helpful in several ways. It covers several selected hotels which are grouped in London geographic areas with a brief description of what can be expected at the hotel and infor for contacting. The London Guide will helpful for planning you daily visit including timing to beat the crowds, and how to navigate required transportation from your hotel. Options for suggested screened dinning spots in different areas are included. Sightseeing spots are reviewed and rated. Includes info on internet addresses to investigate.

A family of three can mean lots of things....two adults and one child, three adults, one adult and two children. How many beds do you need?

Many Premier Inns have a double bed plus a day bed that converts to a single bed for sleeping. If you are a family of two adults and one child, this should work.

They will come in under your budget and I have never had a problem nor dirty room at any of my stays. I wish they would come to the U.S.

Premier Inn in London County Hall. I strongly recommend. The room was comfortable and had plenty of space.
Our family of 3 stayed there several nights a few years ago. It was well-located in the same building as an expensive hotel. Close to the Thames River, very nice area. Close to the bridge that goes to Big Ben. Close to Waterloo station. It should come in well under your budget.

I'm thinking about staying there again.

Hi Brett,
We went to London a year ago-my daughter wanted to meet us in London as coming on the Eurostar from Paris-I chose Hotel Megaro. They offer around-the-corner apartments (around the corner from the main hotel). It had a full kitchen-pull out couch for my daughter to sleep on for the night. AND it was directly across the street from the St Pancras station where the Eurostar went in and out-also the tubes.

The hotel was $225/night. What I learned in London is that the hotel rooms are super small (and I'm used to NYC rooms) also, the hotel charges for the 3rd person. The nightly rate skyrockets. I totally stumbled on Megaro and was so pleased. I made certain that they knew we were a party of 3 but the price didn't go up (unlike other hotels). Make sure that you inform the hotel where you book that you're a party of 3 or else you'll be surprised when they add onto the rate for the 3rd person. The folks there were very nice and I've been on several travel blogs and Hotel Megaro is really getting some rave reviews-funky decor, boutique. I can't say enough good things.
