In the past we have stayed at the Alhambra hotel near St Pancras/Kings Cross but we have decided the rooms are just too small. Does anyone have any other nice hotels in that area?
Thanks for you help!

Not sure how you define "nice" or how many nights. We stayed at the Premier Inn there when we just needed a couple of nights before taking the EuroStar. Rooms are comfortable if spartan and very reasonable price for London.
There are more than 1 Premier Inns in that vicinity. We stayed at the St Pancras PI for a week and were quite comfortable. Yes, it's quite spartan, but it more than met our needs, and the proximity to transportation was excellent.
How much do you want to spend (in GBP)?
I've also stayed in the Premier Inn St Pancras. It was fine. It's the one directly across from the British Libary which is worth a visit.
The California or The Jesmond Dene.
If you haven't tried if yet be sure to try the Dishoon restaurant attached to the St Martin's Campus. Walk up Pancras Road and take a right at the park. Ahead you'll see some bike racks, those bikes you can rent, ride and return elsewhere.
Just past them is a walking bridge over the St Pancras canal. You'll see a large 6 story building with an intriguing walk about fountain in front. That's St Martins's college and the Granary Square fountains.
If you see lots of young ones you know you are at the right place. Pass by it and veer right up the road. I believe that's Stable Street. Dishoom will be on your right.
This whole area has been radically evolving. If you can follow Stable to where it dead ends you'll see massive construction and building renovation happening. Turn left. If lucky the brightly colored wall, think large lego pieces will still be in place. Keep walking toward the round Gas Towers. Two are being converted into condos. Close to being done when I was there in the Fall. The other has been converted into a park with subtle mirrors and benches. Nicely done. From here you can walk back to St Pancras. Appreciate the house boats on the canal first though. There's a nice river path to follow.
Lastly and I have yet to get inside but if you go under the road way on Pancras Road you'll find the Old St Pancras church. You'll also find the Hardy Tree. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/hs2/10870103/If-we-cant-rest-in-peace-handle-with-care.html I love quirky finds in London.
Have fun.
A very nice hotel I stayed at: St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel
It is actually in the St Pancras rail station. Very large rooms (at least in the wing I was in). Enjoyed it a lot.
Hi! I am planning my first ever Europe trip with my 17 year old daughter this June, and have been poring over this site & forum. I think I have narrowed my possible hotel locations to St Pancras or Auldgate. Would St Pancras be a good location if we plan on mainly just walking to see the sights? No major destinations or plans, just 4 days of exploring the city, taking in the architecture & some of the classic stuff (British Museum, Library, Big Ben, etc) but no set in stone itinerary?

Not really. Have a look at a map of Central London on Google Maps. Use Trafalgar square as a center point.. Many of the most popular sights are very spread out. No one hotel would likely fit that criteria. The British Library is across the street from the St Pancras PI, and the British Museum is reachable on foot. But you would want to take the tube or bus to get to other areas. Because Kings Cross is a crossing point for so many tube lines, it makes it very easy to get around from there.
I have stayed at the Jesmond Dene on Argyle St. numerous times. Love the location to the trains and metros/tubes.
Also able to walk to British Museum and several other places.
