Hotel near Paddington Station for one night

Some of you might recall that Delta / Virgin has. changed my flight and is flying me into London 24 hours early. I do not mind the extra night but i mind that it is a Saturday night and going to cost me.

I wrote my hotel in London and they have no vacancies for that Saturday night.

So it looks like I need one night around Paddington Station and it is a Saturday night in October.

I checked with Premier Inn Paddington and the standard room would run me about $250.00 without breakfast which I can not do

I have found some nice places but in the older buildings that have no elevators. I need an elevator for the higher floors if that is where I will be.

I also have found other places with so called free cancellation but then when you read the fine print, the free cancellation is only good until a few days before my arrival. Then I have to pay and I do not know what further changes will happen with my air.

So can anyone recommend lodging around Paddington Station for a Saturday night in October. I need an elevator for higher floors and I need free cancellation at least until the day before arrival.

I am hoping for $150 or maybe even less.

I have 100,000 rewards with Southwest airlines because they never seem to go anywhere I go. I can use my rewards for a hotel room in London. I can use my rewards for almost any hotel within Heathrow Airport but Southwest does not offer any hotels in Central London or around Paddington Station.

And there is a catch. Supposedly it is free cancellation but you have to pay $35 for any changes which includes cancellation. That does not sound free to me.

There is an "Easy Hotel" close to Paddington. I have not stayed at that location but have stayed at another Easy Hotel in London. It is a "no frills" hotel but is at the $100 price point. For the money and considering the other more expensive options, I was happy with my experience there.

I'd double check the price you found for the Premier Inn Paddington. I checked a random October Saturday and saw a flex price for a standard room for £105

The Pilgrm Hotel ( yes, spelled correctly) is a new-ish remodel of a classic building on London Street, in the first block outside the main exit of Paddington station. It is a one-of-a-kind, not a chain, and gets very good reviews, including praise in a number of travel, publications when it first opened (Inremember seeing these and am attracted to the place, but have not yet stayed there).

Their website is silent on lifts, but as a newer facility this may be assumed. The booking.com listing does state they have an elevator. A small single room on a Saturday night in October is £164 on the flexible rate ( cancel without penalty until Friday afternoon 24 hours in advance).

The EasyHotel is a block to the east and does not look to be a good choice. Neither the hotel, website nor bookimg.com mentions an elevator. The price on booking.com for Oct. 14 (Saturday) is $199 for a room for 1 person. The booking.com rating is 4.6 on a scale of 10 (“disappointing”). This is the lowerpst rating by far I have ever seen on booking.com——I’ve never seen lower than 6.5. (The Pilgrm gets 7.6).

I went back to Premier Inn Paddington and again the standard room Flex rate was 207 pounds but when I converted it to U. S. Currency, it was $257.00. I am going to check again.

Here is what I got when I went to P I Paddington Station for October 7th

Well, I need a room for October 7th and there must be something incredible going on in London that Saturday because all the prices are double what the three of you quoted from your mock searches.

The Pilgrm Hotel was over $200. 00. And even the low rated Easy Hotel was about up there.

Check out October 7th with free cancellation ...

I stayed here for nearly a week several years ago, mainly because it was affordable and close to Paddington. It wasn't ideal for that long a stay, but would have been fine for one night. My room was on the ground floor, but it has a lift. Haven't checked the current rates though.

bostonphil7 - whatever you do, stay away from Easy Hotel - I don't think it's for you - as minimalist as the airline - more suitable for backpackers.

Try searching on Premier Inns for London for your date - you should see some prices near your range - but perhaps a bit farther out than you might otherwise choose. But since they are so well regarded here on the forum, there should at least be a comfort level that there won't be any surprises regarding the quality of the property. It may be a time to let go of calculating costs to the penny..

I can see the Travelodge at Acton, on a fully flexible rate of £119, which is within budget. Travelodge are a budget chain, but they are clean, have elevators/lifts and everything you need.
You can add on breakfast for £9 or £10 extra- again not Ritz standard breakfast, but cooked and entirely acceptable.
This may not be exactly Central London- but it is very close to North Acton tube (Central Line)-10 stops to Oxford Circus.
To get there from Heathrow take Elizabeth Line to Ealing Broadway, then Central Line 2 stops. Ealing Broadway is the above ground terminus of the Central Line.
I think it is a reasonable compromise, yes I accept it is £24 more than the non refundable rate. But it is what it is.
If I remember rightly you are arriving LHR at 10am as things stand, maybe add on the £10 for early check in (after 12 noon, before 3pm).
You can add the early check in at a later date when/if flight timings are reconfirmed.
The other even cheaper Travelodge is at Hounslow for £104- a very short walk from Hounslow Central- which is on the Piccadilly line- just a few stops from LHR, but off airport so good for a 'real' place to be.
On this budget a stay in central London is probably not achievable, nor do you want to stay on airport (apparently)- so either of these is a compromise- as something has to give.

Lancaster Hall Hotel - www.lancaster-hall-hotel.co.uk

£140 for the date you quote, cancellation accepted up to one day before arrival. Has a lift.

Rather basic but you're only there a night.

The Premier Inn Heathrow T4 on that night is only £78 fully flexible (£49.50 non Flexible), only a short walk from T4. Use the free inter terminal transfers, gives you a good budget to 'commute' into Central London.
You can add on breakfast for £12 or the meal deal for £27.
Even an upgraded room is only £89.

Thank you all for your help.

I have a busy day on Thursday and will return to this site on Friday after checking out the many suggestions.

For the sake of perhaps 20 minutes on a train I would stay somewhere much more interesting than the Paddington area

But you are correct in that it is showing £207 for the circumstances you require at Premier Inn - and that will be room only

The reason others have found much cheaper options for "random days" is because you are looking at a Saturday, always a premium price in London

Just reading your thread, I would say that if the PI at Paddington is right for you - in terms of location, ease of getting to your next hotel etc, - I would book it now. Before it increases in price. PIs are reliable, I would book one in preference to something a little cheaper but couldn't be quite sure about.

In the scheme of things, its one cost that is more than you'd like. The only other suggestion would be to look at nearby PIs, say near Kings Cross, to get a slightly different location to try for the first night. You may get a slightly better rate, but that's not certain.

Another quick point, I think checking in time is 3pm for PIs, and I suspect you may arrive a little before that. I think they let you check in from 11 am for a charge of £10 per hour (not sure of this) if they have rooms available when you arrive.

I have a busy day today and was not expecting to post but I have decided to book something this weekend.

I am probably going to book something that is more than I want to pay but meets my needs using booking. I may even book two separate places through booking with free cancellation and then keep watching.

If I were to book P I, I think that I would book the one in Heathrow Terminal.

In fact, I might book a hotel in Heathrow Terminal through booking as well as one around Paddington through booking. And then, like I said, keep watching.

Although I am supposed to arrive about 10 a.m., the airline could easily change my time before October.

Check out Hotel 63 Bayswater. I stayed there last summer and I’ll be there again for a week at the end of the month. It’s a quick walk or cab ride from Paddington, has a lift, includes breakfast, and costs £130 for a single room on October 7.

This is strange, because when I priced the Pilgrm on their own website yesterday, I took a guess at the date and used Oct. 7 (Oct. 14 was for the EasyHotel,as I said in my post). I tried both dates at different times in my search, because you did not specify which Saturday in October you were talking about.

The price on the Pilgrm website for Oct. 7 really was £164 for the small single room (not the “bunk room”), on the flexible rate. I took a screen shot of it to remember., and just re-confirmed. That would be $205. The slightly larger room for one person was £169, but I did not mention that one.

But today the price has gone up to £219, which is indeed well above your desired price point. I cannot explain why the change—maybe they got a rash of new bookings, or maybe there is indeed some event in London that drove the price up, but it seems odd that would not have been reflected sooner. In any case, I am disappointed to see the change, as I spent quite a bit of time searching for a nice place that seemed to meet your needs, in a location I know is safe, comfortable, and convenient to Paddington. I am sorry you are not able to get that rate I found yesterday.

Lola,

I am going to keep my eye on Pilgrm Hotel. Maybe it will go back down. I like what I read about it and it seems like it might be perfect except for the price.

I like the area also.

Stacie,

I am staying at Hotel 63 from October 8th thru the 13th. I contacted them and they were sold out for the 7th but I am on the waiting list in case they get a cancellation.

UPDATE:

Stacie,

I went to the Hotel 63 site and there appears to be a single room available for about $163.00.

But I have booked the smallest single room and it does say sold out for the 7th. My room is the least expensive room.

If push comes to shove, I could go to the site and add on the single room for the 7th for $163.00.

Hotel 63 has given me a pin number in. case I want to use the system and view or edit my reservation. Where do I put in the pin number?

I like the Best Western that you suggested. I had looked at that one but a room is going to run me about $250 with free cancellation and breakfast. I can not go that high.

Question about Premier Inn

On. all P I sites, there is something like this over to the right hand side

What 3 Words: ///jobs.whips.plays

Please explain this to me

Also, how easy is it to cancel a P I booking. I am possibly going to book P I in Heathrow Terminal. I will book Flex Rate. If I find something else that I prefer, is it easy to cancel P I?

isn31c in the Lake district

Is the meal deal dinner and then morning breakfast. I have gotten feedback about the breakfast. What is the evening meal like?

the Bed & Breakfast that I will be staying at from October 8th through the 13th is on Bayswater

i will be taking the Heathrow Express or the Elizabeth Line to Paddington.

I want to stay around Paddington Station for the 7th so as to get to my hotel easily from the airport but then get over to my hotel easily on the 8th.

What 3 words is navigation app- see this thread for more details- https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/scotland/what3words-e7903c05-dfb6-4ebe-90a4-c3da40d6987c
For me either a paper map (remember those?) or more likely Google maps is likely to give better or equal results in an urban area. As I'm sure you know if you set it up beforehand you don't need live data to navigate on Google maps.

I have only had to cancel a PI once and it really was a very painless and quick process- https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/faq/cancelling-or-amending.html
The same is true of Travelodge. The refund/change process is superb.

Yes the meal deal is dinner and breakfast. Not the most exciting meal you will ever have (like most hotel meals) and not the most exciting restaurant setting you will encounter, but the restaurant is clean, the food is entirely acceptable and for £17 in London has to be considered good value plus a good choice on the menu. It depends if you just want to have something ready on that first night (if pre-booked you know there will be space for you within their opening hours), or are willing to do the leg work to find a nearby restaurant, on a day when you are likely to be tired.
I doubt you would do it every night on a longer stay, but for a one night stand...

“Hotel 63 has given me a pin number in. case I want to use the system and view or edit my reservation. Where do I put in the pin number?“

I’m not sure about a PIN number, but I did get an email after I booked with a username and password for using the reservation system.

Stacie

you are right. I was sent a password which is all numbers but I have nowhere to set up a user name.

I have a receipt.

I believe that I booked Hotel 63 on line going through the site.

I got a receipt / confirmation and separately I got my password.

I might have to write Hotel 63.

And as said, if push comes to shove, I will do a separate booking for October 7th.
