I'm planning to fly into London Heathrow and then taking a train the next day to Edinborough. Does anybody have a hotel recommendation close enough to Kings Cross, the station we're we'll depart?
Thank you in advance,
Paulette

I've stayed at The Megaro Hotel directly across the direct from Kings Cross -- https://www.themegaro.co.uk/
There's also Great Northern connected to Kings Cross-- https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/lontx-great-northern-hotel-a-tribute-portfolio-hotel-london/overview/
don't have a hotel - just to say it isn't Kings Crossing. Kings Cross, as in a cross, not a road crossing is correct.
there are loads of hotels in the immediate vicinity, including the Renaissance across the little road one minute away in St Pancras station. https://www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/travel/lonpr-st-pancras-renaissance-hotel-london/
Everything from Pullman to Premier Inn and lots of private hotels.
Price and amenity level please, how many adults/children?
It may be a bit higher than most Premier Inns but I can recommend Premier Inn-Kings Cross. We stayed a night after traveling on the Eurostar. Just steps from the Eurostar station, clean and functional, with some decent restaurants nearby.
We are two travelers, retired, in very good health, and are willing to spend a little premium for a safe location, good wifi, bohemian culture and access to public transportation. I realize London is tres cher, so I'm thinking it will likely cost us $250-$300 US per night.
Thank you for your replies.
What the heck is bohemian culture?
Makes me think of North Beach in San Francisco in the 60’s.
Just stay at the Kings Cross Premier Inn.
Where did you wind up near Leicester Square?
Tres Bon!
For your budget it’s the Premier Inn or nothing! You might even have to pay more.
Premier Inn St Pancras or Premier Inn Kings cross would suit your purposes and your budget nicely. You don’t say when you are traveling but I’m staying at Premier Inn St Pancras in April for £90 (about $112 US). Not luxury, but good value and good location.
Going to have to search a bit for bohemian culture, whatever that means. Reminds me of when I was young and my Dad would talk about “beatniks “
bohemian culture
You need to go to The Czech Republic and surrounds for that.
A lot of members on this site use Premier Inns. They seems to have locations all over London.
I use booking.com a lot to do research. You can also book using the site or go directly to the hotel website.
You almost can not go wrong for one night. Even if you are less than happy with your booking, it is just one night.
For your one night positioning purpose I too think any of the Premier Inns in the immediate area would suffice. But to give you another place to consider, we enjoyed a stay at the Pullman, an 8 minute walk away, a few years ago. It’s proximity to the various stations and beautiful British Library was a big draw for us. https://www.pullmanlondonstpancras.com/?y_source=1_MTUzNTk2NjYtNzE1LWxvY2F0aW9uLndlYnNpdGU%3D
You've been given some good ideas. And in case you are thinking that Premier Inns are like Motel 8 in the US, that is not the case. They have always been clean and decent places to stay with good wifi. No four poster beds or red carpets but I've been impressed with how much nicer Premier Inns are than the budget hotels we have in the States.
And the area is pretty posh, though I guess not bohemian-though I'm trying to think where in London that would e.
Plus it's only steps to the train station which is very nice.
IMH bohemian in London now would be Shoreditch, although gentrification is rampant. Oh and there’s a PI there.
You could fly into London Heathrow, change planes, then fly to Edinburgh.
Unless you are looking forward to the experience of the train ride and enjoying the scenery out the window as you go.
If your goal is just getting to Edinburgh, you can fly directly there from some U.S. airports.
My hotel recommendation is, if you stick with your plan, Premier Inn King's Cross.

^^ Well said. I'm flying into LHR, then taking the train next day to Edinburgh, in mid-May. I'm looking forward to the train ride. I'll either buy the latest edition of Benedict Le Vay's Britain From the Rails: A Window Gazer's Guide, or stick with my older version. And try to get a seat facing forward on the right hand side of the train.
I've booked a room at the Premier Inn King's Cross, but didn't find a bargain rate for that night at either that PI or the St. Pancras PI. I chose the refundable prepaid rate of £173 (approximately US$213).
Thank you all for your suggestions and comments (esp. re: Bohemian culture, LOL). We may go to Glasgow first, then back to Edinburgh for our flight to Barcelona. When I book I will let you all know.
Many thanks,
Paulette
Suz, thanks for the recommendation of that book!
I booked the Radisson Blu Edwardian Kenilworth for 268 GBP per night for 2 nights. It is close enough to walk to the Prince Edward Theatre for our Sunday matinee and close enough to the tube to get to either Euston or Kings Cross.
We decided to stay 2 nights to acclimate and get our theatre fix before heading to Scotland. Thank you all for your suggestions, very helpful!

At nearly $340/night you chose well.
Museum Tavern pub has been re done. Stop in.
Still curious why you weren’t interested in staying in the Premier Inn options that were suggested.
Enjoy your stay.
Hi Claudia,
Great question. I chose this hotel over Premier Inns for a few reasons beyond just location:
Thanks for asking, I did spend quite a bit of time researching options based on recommendations and guidebooks, including Premier Inns, Pullman, San Pancras, Hilton and several others but ultimately this was my choice. I hope it is a good one!
Paulette
I suggest "The Alhambra Hotel"... a very nice B&B on Argyle , opposite of Kings Cross. This is the area I always when in London, various B&Bs.
I hope your stay is as comfortable and elegant as I’ve always imagined it would be.
Thanks for the explanation. Do hope you’ll share a review after your stay.
Wow, I stay in the area and always have wanted to know what the inside looks like. I hope the OP will give us a review.
