Hotel near Heathrow or not?

We depart London from Heathrow (terminal 2) on a very early, weekday flight (~7:30 a.m.) and thus need to be at the airport before the trains begin running. We plan to take a cab to the airport. I have to make our final lodging arrangements and want to know how close we should try to get to Heathrow in order to make that early-morning trip easier.

Does anyone have hotel (or hotel location) recommendations? Two nights, 3 people.
Have I missed a transport option in the 4-5 a.m. time range?

Thanks!

There are several Premier Inns around Heathrow. One near Terminal 4 another just outside the free bus zone. Loads of travelers use that one as there is a long term parking lot next door. Cheap, quiet, food (that is a little overpriced) attached. One near Terminal 4 is walkable, the other one is a bit of a hassle (I never fully understand the 'no taxis at Heathrow' thing). The hotel may, however, have a shuttle.

We have had even earlier flights than that out of Heathrow. We have stayed st the LHR Hilton, Yetminal 4, but prefer the BLHR Sofitel and now stay there, connected to Terminal 5. If your flight is out of a different terminal ,you should take a taxi as the trains are many fewer. Hotel will get one for you.One time we had a half an hour wait for the train in the early morning.

Our vote for Premier Inn near Terminal 4 too. We stayed one night last Spring prior to our cruise. New, clean and incredibly cheap with breakfast included.

We had an early flight and stayed at the Novotel at the airport. We were planning to visit Windsor from there, but didn't get around to it. The hotels at the airport are all served by a handy shuttle bus. Note that as far as we could tell, there wasn't anyplace walkable to eat around there other than at the hotels, if that is a factor.

Another vote for the T4 Premier Inn because of the usually very low cost. I've stayed there twice and am using it again in August.
