Hi, we will be visiting London October 12th to the 15th. We are hoping to do half day of site seeing on the 12 (arrive at airport mid-morning and will have jet lag) and two full days on the 13, 14. We will be leaving on 15th late morning.
Trying to find a hotel that we can walk to as many sites as possible (love to walk) and will also take public transportation. Our list of places we hope to see are Westminster Abbey, Churchill War rooms, Buckingham palace (quick walk by) Tower of London, St Paul Cathedral, Big Ben & London eye for a quick picture, also on our quick peaks is Harrods, Trafalgar Square Piccadilly Square. We know we will be busy trying to fit it all in and are ok with it. Need help figuring out best place to stay. I'm fine with a chain. Just need clean room as we won't spend much time in it. I realize it is expensive and will pay what it takes to make this quick stop doable. Ideally, I'd like to stick to $200 - $300 A NIGHT.
Welcome to the forum. Premier Inn is a chain, with dependable quality similar to a Holiday Inn in the US. There are quite a few all over London , but you might look at 2 in particular: PI County Hall, and PI Waterloo.
Premier Inns are good hotels for those on a budget, yet are consistently clean with very comfortable beds. They are all over London, but there are some that are relatively close to your destinations.
Premier Inn County Hall is very close to Westminster. You just turn out of the hotel, walk a block, then cross the Westminster Bridge and you're there. Near there are the Churchill War Rooms, Buckingham Palace, and Big Ben. The London Eye is actually just a few steps away on the Thames. So for most of your sights, that would be convenient.
I stayed there last year for 5 nights and found it to be a very good hotel that was reasonably priced. I got there from Heathrow quite easily. You just take the Elizabeth train to Tottenham Court Road Station. Transfer to the Northern (black) Line, and get off at Waterloo Station. Head out (Way out #4 - Tension Way), turn left on Cab Rd, the left on York Rd., right on Chicheley, then left on Belvedere to Premier Inn.
There is another PI just up the street (Premier Inn Waterloo) so you might want to check prices for both. Other Premier Inns in the vicinity include the Premier Inn Victoria (near Victoria Station) and Premier Inn Leicester, near Trafalgar Square. You will also see a number of Premier Inn Hubs, which are cheaper but much smaller (some rooms do not have windows).
All PIs provide breakfast at an additional (reasonable) cost. And keep in mind that PIs offer a variety of pricing options: Non-refundable (the cheapest), a hybrid price that is payable in advance but you can cancel up to 25 days ahead, and completely refundable. Generally the earlier you book, the cheaper the price.
I stayed at the Premier Inn Covent Garden which is right by Trafalgar Square and walked to all the places you mentioned. I would stay there again.
