First time going to England. Will be in London for 4 nights. Any suggestions on hotels in Covent Garden (maybe Soho) area? July, just two of us, want to walk whenever possible. Trying to keep it at low $300’s or less per night. Most important is safe area, clean and close to restaurants.
Thanks
Several folks on the forum like Premier Inns. I've not stayed at this particular one, but they are pretty standard and it has good reviews on TripAdvisor. It is close to transportation and to Covent Garden and within your budget. Take a look at the London Leicester Square Premier Inn at www.premierinn.com
Stayed at the Resident Covent Garden last year. Location was great. Hotel was clean and staff was helpful. Not a lot of character or public spaces but Covent Garden is just outside the door.
The Premier Inn County Hall is often recommended on this forum for both location and price. It's on the South Bank about a 15 minute walk to Westminster Abbey and 25 minutes to Covent Garden.
Where you choose, be sure your room has AC.
Also try the Fielding Hotel
I have stayed at the Radisson Blu Mercer Street before and will be staying there again in March. Some rooms are on the small side but that doesn't really matter to me because the service, location, gym, restaurant and public areas are great. It is both near the Picadilly and Elizabeth tube lines. Very close to Covent Garden, British Museum, West End theaters and located at Seven Dials.
Joining the Radisson rewards club gave me additional discounts. They also have specials which help bring the price within your range.
Every time I find myself in the Covent Garden area, I think to myself, "Wow, I'm glad I'm not staying here." It's just so crowded. I can see its value for a trip involving a lot of theatre tickets, but it's just not what I want for a more general trip.
I recommend a close look at the reviews of potential lodgings on booking.com, with a focus on comments about noise. Perhaps hotels in that area have good windows, but I'd want to see the comments of earlier guests on that score.
