Traveling end of June 2025 with 5 adults, 1 teen, 3 children, ages 12, 11 and 9. Would Premier Inn near Paddington Station be better or would Hotel 63 on Bayswater road be better? Planning to stay in London for 4 nights. We want to visit Warner Brothers Harry Potter , Globe Theatre, Borough Market, Hyde Park, and take a day trip to Oxford, or possibly stay one night in Oxford. Thanks for suggestions.
Does it have to be Paddington or Bayswater?
If I had that big of a crew I would be looking more into renting a flat in London. I personally don’t use AirBnBs or VRBO style accommodations anymore, but there are several short term stay rental companies members here have mentioned including the one we used, www.ivylettings.com. I would highly recommend them.
Also, since you are going in the summer, you could check out staying in the apartments that are rented through the universities. The Imperial College London offers these. Their email is [email protected] University College London does as well. www.ucl.ac.uk/accommodation/summer
If you’re not married to staying in a hotel type accommodation, these are possibilities. Good luck in your search.
I would want air conditioning at the end of June. Be very careful to be sure your chosen place has it. Not every place does, especially if you branch out to apartments or university housing.
Great point acraven. We were there at the end of June two summers ago and a few nights were fairly uncomfortable in the flat we stayed in. I remember one university accommodation offered by London School of Economics- Bankside House I believe- had AC. We had looked into that one but went with a flat instead. I definitely had AC envy those nights I was feeling the late June heat in that basement flat!
srepoley, I will be staying at the Paddington PI in the next week, not in a family room, though. I will write up a review when we get back to add more food for thought.
When I stayed at Number 63, there was very little air conditioning.
In fact, I had one of the rooms with it. There is A/C in that room so the occupant could sleep with the window closed.
I was told it was because the window opened to Bayswater Road, which is a bit busy with traffic. It was also a single room - literally a single bed.
That was 2016 and things might have changed.
No, it doesn’t have to be Paddington or Bayswater, I just thought they would be convenient for us coming in from Heathrow and for a trip to Oxford. We would prefer a place with air conditioning.
If you want a hotel as opposed to a flat, you might want to check out The Resident Hotels in London. They have a hotel in Victoria, Soho, Kensington, and Covent Garden.
I will be staying in one of their triple rooms at The Resident Victoria in late March/early April next year with two grandkids, and I know that they have air-conditioning there. The hotel is also a very short distance from Victoria Station. I have heard nothing but good things about The Resident hotels on this forum.
Also, if you become a member (which is free), you get 15% off. https://www.residenthotels.com/
It is more expensive than the Premier Inn, though, although not terribly. The last time I was in London, I stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall, which is fairly close to the Globe and Borough Market, and near Waterloo Station. They have family rooms there, I believe.
