Hop on/Hop off bus tours

The website states that you have to choose either the red line or blue line for your 1 day sightseeing. Each section of the tour is approx. 1.5 hours long. Does that mean that you can, lets say, go on the blue bus tours and take ALL the sections of London they offer for that 1 day.

There is more than one Hop on/Hop off bus company operating in London. Which one are you asking about (can you give us a link to the website)?

Hop on/Hop off bus tours are good for getting orientated on your first day in a new city. They are not the quickest way of getting between locations, and definitely not the cheapest. For just getting around, use normal public transport, scheduled buses or the tube.

With an Oyster Card, the maximum fare you'll pay (buses and Underground) for all your trips in Zones 1 - 3 is 8.20 pounds per day.

It’s called The London Pass. You can get into many things free.

It’s not really free though, is it, given how expensive the London Pass is.

Please work out carefully if you need it - most of London’s top museums are genuinely free.

gchansen, you say "London Pass", I guess you mean this one: https://www.londonpass.com/

This page: https://www.londonpass.com/london-attractions/hop-on-hop-off-bus-tour.html
says you have a choice of two different companies either Big Bus Tours or Golden Tours. Each company has multiple routes, blue, red, yellow etc., again you have to choose, you get one route on one company only. And the two companies have different routes; Big Bus red route is not the same as Golden red route, same for other colours.

That said, to answer your question, you can get on and off and do all sections, but just on your chosen route and chosen company.

As the others say, the consensus is that to get your money's worth from these passes, you need to do seriously manic multiple sites in one day. Many museums are free, and buses and the tube (with an Oyster Card) are much cheaper and faster for getting around.
