Home Base 3 day Cotswold

Good Day.

We will have a car but love to walk too. Looking for a home base for 3 nights and 4 days that is reasonably priced. Is Cheltenham feasible? We can stay cheaply there but not sure if it makes sense. We have looked at other areas but would like a hotel with a fitness facility as we have been traveling for quite a while and need to maintain some level of weight training. Most of the quaint inns do not include any fitness centers. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You could base in Cheltenham but it’s not ideal as it is quite far from the parts of the Cotswolds that most tourists prioritise. You also have hassle of driving in and out of the city each day, plus you’re in a city which is not really the point of going to the Cotswolds in the first place.

I agree that you will struggle to find somewhere budget friendly and with a gym in the more rural parts of the Cotswolds. Hotel provision is purely for tourism purposes and is split between upmarket luxury hotels with full facilities and smaller hotels which rarely have gyms.

I am never really sure what “quaint” means to American tourists or indeed “inn” but I’m pretty sure the words quaint inn and fitness centre have never appeared in the same sentence before. Could you go for a run around the village?

Hi! As you have found I think quaint, reasonable and gym might be somewhat mutually exclusive - well would be for me since I'm tight so reasonable = cheap!

One idea is to look for gyms "off-hotel". I was thinking Cirencester would be great (quaint 10/10) and with a bit of research found this https://share.google/2H6U1mQpz2PN72Qi6

No idea what state it will be in or if it's still there but might spark ideas!

Also saw PureGym have lots of gyms and looks like they do day passes - not sure of costs but one site quoted around £7.99-£15.99.

Enjoy your trip!
