Holland Park Area

we are looking at renting an apartment in the Holland Park area of London. We will not have a car and want to be able to walk to restaurants and shops. We would only be about 5 minutes from the subway though looking at photos on Google seems we are in a residential area. Is this a good area for tourists to stay?

It depends on how much you want to spend for eating out and shopping. This is a beautiful area with a 54 acre woodland park as the centerpiece and the park has formal gardens, a cafe, areas for children, and lots of beautiful peacocks. It is tranquil and just beautiful. The area is very pricey to rent or buy in, one of the most expensive in London. Keep in mind the exclusive Wetherby School where the Prince and Princess of Wales sent Prince William and Prince Harry is in this neighborhood! It is a safe neighborhood. There are a lot of expensive upscale boutiques, shops, florists, over-priced butcher shop, clothing stores, restaurants, wine bars, and pubs here. I like the Daunt Bookstore and to buy something and go to a cafe for pastries and coffee or go to the park to read. The tube can take you want to go out of the neighborhood so you could enjoy living like a rich Londoner in this lovely area and take the tube to easily get to other areas. One thing I love about London is the public transit. We have lived in London and really took advantage of cabs and public transit, using rental cars only as needed for going out of the city (you are wise not to try to have a car in the city!).

This is a gorgeous neighborhood - very classic London. Very expensive. The park is nice and the shops are trendy and on the posh end of the economic spectrum.
