If I want to go to Hampton Court Palace and the website says it is booked up for that day (and the same for Tower of London) can I still get in on that day if I have a Historic Royal Palace membership?
This is what the website says: https://www.hrp.org.uk/membership/membership-faqs/#gs.l4xpqr
Do I need to pre-book a free ticket as a member?
Members enjoy unlimited, free general admission to our palaces during opening hours.
Pre-booking a free member ticket is now only required for select palace event days. Our what's on pages and regular member email newsletters will always explain whether members need to pre-book.
In spring/summer 2025, members must pre-book a free ticket through the member portal for: the Feel Good Festival (16-18 May), the Big Bahooey (24-26 May), Henry VIII's Joust (12-13 and 19-20 July) and the Food Festival (23 - 25 August 2025). Without a ticket, members are not guaranteed entry on these dates.
At any other time, you do not need to pre-book a ticket to enjoy your unlimited, free entry as a member. This includes any other general admission visits to Hampton Court Palace, the Tower of London, Kensington Palace and our Dress Codes exhibition, and Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. Simply show your membership card for free general admission (or for new members, show your confirmation email).
Please note, pre-booking is still required for non-general admission events, unless otherwise specified.
Yes, you can, and that's exactly what I did just recently.
I bought a membership to HRP and a few weeks ago, my grandkids and I went to both the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace with no problems. You don't need to book ahead—just go and get in the line with ticketed patrons, and show them either your membership number (if you have it) or if not (like me) just show them the email confirmation you got from HRP after you bought the membership.
Thank you. We are only going to be in London for a couple of days. Didn’t want to buy the pass and then find out I wouldn’t be able to get in.
