Hiking shoes necessary for south England tour?

I loved, LOVED, this tour! You will have a great time. I took a well broken in pair of sneakers and a pair of leather boots, think lighter weight doc martens type boots, not a hiking boot. You need sturdy shoes but I don’t think you need true hiking the back country type shoes. You will be on trails 100s of tourists walk in all types of footwear.

There are a number of places on this tour with rocky, uneven footing. Tintangel, St. Michaels Mount, and Dartmoor are the places I recall. I was happy I was wearing sturdy shoes with grippy soles.

We've taken that tour, and we did not need real hiking boots. Just a substantial shoe with a good gripping sole will do nicely.

If your Allbirds have little tread like mine, you might consider a sneaker with more grip on the sole.

Ooh, Mustlovedogs, are those still on sale? That is such a great price! Hillary, I highly recommend these shoes. I bought a pair before I went to Iceland, Stockholm, and Norway, and wore them every time we did any hiking or walking, including walking on some rocks and very uneven terrain, and they were great!

The first pair I bought were $140-something, but then I found these on Nordstrom for more than half the price off, so I bought a second pair, and they're wonderful. There's a story about them in my Iceland trip report, which I won't go into here (basically, I walked off with the wrong pair of shoes and had to make a switch with the owner of those), but I was so glad I got my own shoes back!

They are still on sale, but some of the sizes have sold out. Don’t know what size Hillary may need, but they are a real bargain! There are some other Merrill brands on the Nordstrom Rack site, too, that have more sizes available, so might be worth checking if the size you need is gone.

Well, I decided to order a third pair as I know at some point, these two I have will wear out, so I will want another one.

I was able to use my $40 in Nordstrom notes, plus pick it up at a store, so no shipping cost, and I get 5% off for using my Nordstrom card, so it wound up costing me $18.97.

And there's no sales tax on clothing in Minnesota, so that's the total cost.

Yes Merrill’s are popular. I’m super happy with my Topo brand hikers and with my Allbirds. Just noodling whether a second, more sturdy shoe than my Albirds are advisable for this tour. Sounds like yes…

Yes, you need something with a bit more grip than the Allbirds especially if you get some rain.
