Highclere Castle worth seeing?

I'm a big fan of Downton Abbey. My time in London is limited to 4 days. Should I use one of those days to tour Highclere Castle/Downton Abbey? If so, suggestions for best tour to do please!!

I would say no since 4 days isn't much time in a city with so much to see and do.

You will be struggling to decide what to scratch from London's sights in only 4 days, never mind cutting this down to 3 days. Highclere isn't as interesting as other places that you could visit out of Central London such as Hampton Court or Windsor Castle.

If it is a priority of yours, then go. We are also Downton Abbey fans and have visited Highclere twice. We loved the gardens/grounds so much on our first visit that we visited Highclere again during our next trip to England. We rented a car both times so I unfortunately do not have a tour to recommend.

If it is important to you, then you should go! Don't let anyone tell you differently because it isn't something they would want to do! If you decide to visit Highclere Castle, I hope you have a wonderful time and I would love to hear/read about it :-)

You must remember that Highclere Ashley isn't open everyday like a lot of other places. They haven't announced the dates for the summer yet, but the tickets goes fast.

I am a big fan of Downton and really enjoyed the day we spent at Highclere Castle. Its a long day out of London, but I think you would really enjoy it and you would get to see some of the English countryside away from the City. (We did not do a tour as we had a car and got tickets independently through the website as soon as they went on sale).

My husband and I spent all of August, 2016 in England. We used Cotswold Walks for our 8 night stay in the Cotswolds On our way to Chipping Camden, our driver took us from our London hotel to Highclere Castle. He parked on the grounds. We just had to walk a few yards to enter the castle. We spent two hours in and around the grounds. We also had a quick cup of tea on the backside of the castle. We didn't have or need any tickets. Andrew Guppy (Cotswold Walks) told us we didn't need tickets for that date. I also contacted the Highclere Castle website. I was told that we wouldn't be turned away, as there were only two of us. We TOTALLY enjoyed our tour. We wished we would have had more time to walk around the grounds though. On another day, our Cotswold driver took us to Bampton, to see where the church scenes, hospital and street scenes were filmed. That was also exciting. We also enjoyed that. We even got to talk to one of the villagers about the filming. She said that Bampton was able to save their library, due to "Downton" being filmed there. I know you can take a bus tour to Bampton, to see the sites. Unfortunately, people commented that the tour was a waste of time. We saw two tour buses arriving, while we were outside the church in Bampton. We thought it was much nicer to have our own arranged driver to tell us things and to walk inside the church and the library and around the small picturesque streets. "Downton" used the library for the hospital scenes. We didn't know that "Mrs. Crowley's house", was actually right next to the library.
