Highclere Castle

I am very interested in visiting Highclere castle and have never been before. I am planning on visiting on Sunday Aug 28 traveling from London, but do not have a pre-booked ticket, nor am I interested in taking a bus tour there. What are my chances of getting a walk up ticket that day (does anybody know how many daily walk up tickets they have)? And what time should I show up to increase my chances of getting a walk up ticket? The website says 2 pm, but I feel like that is late, so is there any advantage for showing up earlier?

Thanks, i did read that post which is a little old, but just was wondering if anybody has been there within the past year without tickets just in case things have changed.

I would contact their web site with your specific question. Things have no doubt changed now that Downton Abbey is out of production and tourists are not competing with the shooting of the TV show. For that reason I would question the current applicability of anybody's past experience.
