Highclere

I'm planning a daytrip from London to Highclere in August. I will buy my ticket online in advance and take the train from London to Newbury. Any recommendations on a specific reliable taxi service to book in advance from the Newbury train station to Highclere. I've heard some suggestions to confirm a return trip from Highclere to the Newbury station with your driver.

I am most concerned about reliability over price. Does anyone have more hints on a specific taxi company or any other suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Nancy,

There was someone Rick had recommended in one of his guide books. I used that person about five years ago, and he was very reliable and even held onto my luggage for me. I’m not sure he still in business, but you might look at the most recent guy books for England to see if Rick has somebody recommended.

I absolutely loved my experience there. Especially on the grounds, walking around, eating scones. You’re gonna have a fantastic time!

Newbury is pretty small.
I had the woman at the visitor center in Newbury call me a regular taxi, and the driver gave me a number to call when we were ready to leave Highclere. Everything went smoothly.

I don't have a specific company to recommend, but if you are not able to find the individual RS previously recommended, you can Google "Taxi Newbury UK" and get several companies. In case you need to find a place to eat lunch or dinner, you'll be glad to know that the high street is just around the corner from the station and has several modestly priced restaurants.
