Help with 9 day itinerary

26 years after doing Rick's 22 days in Great Britain with a friend, I'll be back with my family with 2 teenagers. This time we have only 9 days. Generally consistent with Steve's recommendation (except for the starting order), we begin with 3 days/nights in London, 2 in Bath, leaving an open day before we would stay 2 days/nights in York and finish with a evening in London before our return.

Are the Cotswolds a realistic destination filling in that one open day between Bath and York? I enjoy driving and will secure a rental car to get there from Bath, and presumably will drive to York (though I realize a train is an option from say, Oxford). We'll be more interested in touring / walking the villages / countryside than any particular attraction, save perhaps Blenheim Place.

Not entirely clear whether you're thinking of a one-day drive between Bath and York or a two-day road trip with an overnight in the Cotswolds. If the latter, no problem, just figure out where you want to stay.

But if this is a one-day drive, it will be a long one. Via Michelin shows various routes from Bath to York totaling around 5 hours. That's on motorways with no stops and no Cotswolds. With an early start, you should have time for a more leisurely drive through the Cotswolds before hitting the motorway. Try playing with scenarios like Bath to Stow-on-the-Wold (or pick another Cotswold destination) for planning purposes, but of course you'll want to improvise.

To allow for exploring in the Cotswold region, and maybe a walk somewhere, you'll probably have to forego Blenheim. It's a big place, deserving at least a half day I'd say (some would say a full day). The good news is that you'll get into the Cotswolds relatively soon after leaving Bath, so you can take the time you want and then barrel up the motorways to York. Might want to notify your accommodation there that you'll be getting in late.
