On our way from the United States to India, we've been left with a 12-hour layover in London; we land around 6:15 am. and fly out at 7pm. We were wondering if you had any recommendations for how to use that time? We are a family of 4 (very active and alert kids) with American passports. So, we would not need a visa to enter the country, we believe. We've never been to London before, so we want to make the most of that time, even if we understand the circumstances aren't ideal. I believe we wont have our bags as it will be only picked up in India. We are ready to take the tube (underground) / Heathrow express train to explore London. We would like to see Tower bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham palace and if possible King's cross (platform 9 3/4 we are big potter-heads). Your suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks a lot
Firstly I would forget the HEX. Take the Tube (Piccadilly Line) to Kings Cross St Pancras (55 minutes), after the Potter stuff take the Circle Line to Tower Hill, then Westminster. From there walk to Buckingham Palace. Then walk to Bond Street to get the Elizabeth Line to LHR.
Looks like they are all on the Circle Line so you can do a loop.
Also, any suggestions on anything specific to not be missed in our time in London, please let us know. Thanks
I recommend the Thames Clipper/Uber Boat from the Tower pier to Westminster Pier, if you have time. Beautiful view of the buildings along the river. I would skip Buckingham Palace for that, personally. It doesn’t look all that exciting from the outside .
Thanks Sasha. I was not aware of that. Any links of how to get that boat tour booked. Appreciate your suggestion.
Actually it is not a tour, it is scheduled transport on the river for commuting!

You pay just like you do for the Tube. It costs a bit more but so worth it.
Looks like Tower pier to Westminster pier is only 20 minutes
