Help with 1st day itinerary in London

We are landing 6am at Heathrow on a Tues. from US. So what should be our plan of attack with jetlag? I was thinking:

Drop our backpacks off at hotel
Begin section of Rick's "Westminster Walk" but branch off to Buckinham palace in time for changing of guard
(might have time for Parliament prior to that??)
Then continue to walk
London eye near sunset, if a pretty day
Turn in early.

Thanks

Your plan sound vg. Stay up and walk most of day. Leave. museums for another day.
Eat light meals, stay hydrated. You could also enjoy walking in Hyde park toward buckingham palace. If u get tired try the hop on off bus. It is quite enjoyable for first timers.

And if you need to take a two hour nap as soon as your room is ready and take a shower, we won't tell. ;) There are ten different schools of thought on jet lag, and I don't think there's a reason to push yourself too hard once you start hitting the wall. Play it by ear. Have fun!

Are you traveling soon as opposed to Fall or Winter. Asking because crowds are huge for the Changing of The Guards during the Summer months and if you "break off" you'll need to do so early to get a good viewing spot. And by early I mean a minimum of an hour before hand. So, do you really want to stand around waiting for a ceremony that is only 20 minutes long or do you wish to walk off your jet lag?
In Parliament Square you will have views Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Across Westminster bridge on the other side of the Thames is the London Eye. From Parliament Square its a lovely stroll up Birdcage Walk and through St James Park to the Palace if that's your choice. Otherwise from Parliament Square walk up Whitehall pass the Horse Guards and #10 Downing Street to Trafalgar Square and then on over and into Covent Garden. From there tube over to the Eye and after tube back to your accommodation for a good nights rest.

We are traveling the end of this month. I heard on one of Rick's intervews with Gillian that she takes her group over to St. James and marches with the guard towards the palace. Is there anywhere to chillax while waiting for the guard to pass, even if we don't see the actual changing?
