We are trying to buy advance tickets for 4 train trips. We also plan to acquire a Two Together rail pass when we arrive in London. I understand that we can indicate, when buying the advance tickets on line now, that we can indicate that we have a Two Together rail pass to get a further discount on the fares. However, in trying to buy our first set of tickets, I do not see anywhere to indicate that we have the Two Together railpass. How do we do that?
Start with the UK national Rail website and enter your journey. It will take you to the appropriate website for the train company you will use.
Note at lower left in the dark blue box where is says "More options, passengers, Railcards." Open that and enter two passengers, and scroll down the Railcard menu to find Two Together---it is almost the last. Then select "1" for the number of Railcards. It will then apply to prices on all tickets offered.
we're not seeing the blue box or those options. Do we have to register/sign in with each railway we're using? We have registered with nationalrail.
Also, it doesn't seem to allow us buy 2 one-way tix at the same time. Do we have to do two separate purchases?
You should see the "more options" option on the opening page of the National Rail website---the link I gave you. Enter your journey and the # of passengers and Railcards there and then it will take you to the separate train companies.
You don't need to register with each company ( Virgin East Coast, First Great Western, etc.) if you don't wish to, but it does make it easier to keep track of purchases, and you have a backup for finding your tix if you lose the confirmation email.
I purchase each one-way journey separately----I.e., London to York, York to Newcastle, etc. But if it is a single journey that involves several train changes, I usually buy that as one ticket on the whole journey that day. Unless there is a price advantage in splitting the ticket. ( But here things get complicated. )
Thank you. Very helpful. I think we have it now.
Thanks for asking this question cthedlund and thanks to Lola from Seattle for her response. Just what I needed.
