Help me plan a London day out on a Nov Wed?

Hi all,
I'm taking myself to Christmas at Kew Gardens on a November Wednesday, one of the earlier time slots (4 or 5 pm, can't exactly remember). It's a long trek on public transport from where I'm staying southeast of Greenwich, so I'd like to make it a full day out that day. I've been looking at Google Maps to see what sorts of museums or historic sites are near-ish but am not feeling very successful yet. I'm very happy to see a site and then amuse myself with my book or writing at a cafe or pub until my Christmas at Kew entry slot.

I like:

  • walking (I have correct London November outerwear & shoes)
  • pretty things to look at (e.g. gardens, art, palaces, houses, books)
  • tasty things to eat & drink (e.g. tea, cakes, soups and bread, beer, etc)

What I'm considering but unsure of:

  • overshoot Kew Gardens to visit Hampton Court Palace and then backtrack?
  • visit a place or two en route to Kew Gardens

Not 100% sure what places I may want to visit en route. This will be my 4th visit to London in the past 5 years (a hard life I live lol) and I feel satisfied with my experiences seeing the big sites (the Tower, Westminster Abbey, British Museum, etc.) What are your favorite 2nd/3rd/4th/5th London visit places to go?

Thank you for your thoughts!

I think Hampton Court first would tick pretty much all your boxes. While there are no boats at this time of the year from HC to Kew, you can actually walk the Thames Path (along the river) between the two locations, if it was a nice day and you had the time.

Maybe lunch in Hammersmith?

A bit of a backtrack, but you could go back to Southfields and visit the museum
at Wimbledon if you're a tennis fan.

Lunch in Richmond? You could easily walk from there to Kew, both by road or along the Thames path.

Thanks all, for your suggestions! I'm leaning towards visiting Hampton Court Palace and unless there's sideways rain the Thames Path sounds delightful.

popping back in ages later to report: I visited Hampton Court Palace and wandered all over dodging primary schoolchildren on their field trips/day out :) I found a cafe next to the bus stop for lunch and tea/reading/writing, then took the bus to Kew Gardens. I loved the Christmas at Kew experience and I look forward to returning to Kew Gardens someday when everything is in bloom!
