Heathrow transfer

We arrive from Paris (British Airways) at Terminal 5.
We depart for Seattle (Virgin Atlantic) from Terminal 3.
Website says it's a 20 minute train ride between Terminals.
What else can we expect that will add to the time between flights?
I assume security screening will take place at Term 3.

Is this on one tickets, and will you have checked bags?

There is an intra-terminal bus for airside transfers. THe time depends on how long you have to wait for one. They are supposed to run every 10 minutes but YMMV. You will go through security in T3.

I timed the transfer from T5 to T3 when we did it, and it was 45 minutes total, gate to gate. But we were flying business class so we were first off the plane, and had “fast track” through the second security screening.

We just did this transfer from Dublin to LHR on British Airways to T5 and then a transfer to Terminal 3 for an AA flight to Chicago. You following the purple connections line and there will be buses to take you to Terminal 3. But It will take longer than 20 minutes. The buses were quite full when we were going through. Another Passport and security check. I would say it was at least 45 minutes to do all this. There is still a fair amount of walking to do as well inside the terminals.

You don't say what connection time you have.

Go to this page (the same one mentioned above):

Heathrow Flight Connections

Fill in your flight information and get step by step instructions.

There might be some variables to the instructions if:

1) It is not one ticket.

2) You have checked luggage that is not checked through from Paris to Seattle.

Normally, you do not have to go through passport control just connect flights. Just follow the Fight connction signs and they will get you to Terminal 3. (Security is always something you will go through again.) But if you have checked luggage you have to retrieve, then you must enter the UK, pick up your luggage, take the train from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3, check in, go through security and find your gate.
