Heathrow to Waterloo

What is the best mode of transportation to get from Heathrow to Waterloo station/tube for three people with three suitcases? Train? Bus? Taxi? Uber? Landing at 11am on Saturday.

Thanks!

Best is a subjective requirement. Is cost an issue? 40 to 50 Pounds Sterling will get you there, pretty much directly and maybe the fastest, by Taxi, not sure about Uber.

About the same time, but cheaper would be taking the Underground. The Piccadilly line leaves from Heathrow, you would need to change lines at Green Park to the Jubilee line, I recall steps and walking at Green Park to change. That would cost you 6 pounds per, so 18 pounds for the three. So if handling your bag is not an issue, and cost may be, then this is the route I would go.

Budget and how you are feeling will make a big difference on the answer here. I always have options in mind.

The first is if I am feeling pretty good and know that I can manage public transport without any problem. I'd take the tube. The second is if I am feeling a little worn out. I'd take the train

(not the heathrow express unless budget doesn't matter) to Paddington and a cab to Waterloo. Expect the cab to cost around 25 pounds.

Option 3: I am sick and feel like I would pay anything to get to that hotel as soon as possible. Take a taxi at the airport.

The change from the Piccadilly to Jubilee at Green Park is one of the longest walks on the whole Underground system. I would change from the Piccadilly to the Bakerloo at Piccadilly Circus.

Philip, I am aware of that, having found out in the past the hard way NOT to change to the Jubilee line at Green Park.
I have wondered why? Some stations have an excuse, they were originally built as two stations by two different companies, and then joined with a long tunnel. The Jubillee line is "new build" and does not have that excuse. So why was the Jubille line not placed under the other ones?

Janelle, there are some "tricks" to navigating the underground. Some places where changing is easy, and some not. You only find this out by going there, or asking a local on a forum such as this.

Just want to say I followed Emma's directions when changing last month and it worked perfectly!

So helpful. Actually, staying right by Lambeth North. Does that help? I thought it was closer to Waterloo than it is.

If the tube is okay with luggage, I'd be okay with that. I take it that Oyster cards are easy to find, right?

I might consider booking a taxi. If I go that route, how long would you give from landing to leaving? Also, I'm slightly concerned about a quick layover in Atlanta (50 minutes) and that we might miss our flight to London. If we book a taxi and can't make it, what happens? Refund? Reschedule?

Thanks again!

Not knowing how tired we'd be, we are taking a mini cab. Do we tip?
