We are flying into Heathrow in early August and will immediately catch a flight to Shannon (got a deal on the flight to Heathrow from United). Any idea how much time I should allow between flights and will I have to clear customs in London and go through security there before the flight to Ireland?
One ticket?
Sounds like 2 tickets from the wording.
If true, then anything less than 4 hrs is like roulette at a casino. If you have checked luggage, add for that.
Nope, two tix. Was hoping since we were just transiting through Heathrow we wouldn’t have to clear customs and security til we return from Dublin.

where does Dublin come into it?
We are flying into Shannon and back to London from Dublin
You will pass the UK border and go through UK immigration and security at Heathrow before continuing your jourmey.
If you are not an Irish or UK passport holder you will also be subject to immigration arriving in Ireland.
That’s what I assumed but thank you for the info!
You always have to go through security in London for any connecting flight apart from if you arrive on one also under the jurisdiction of the Civil Aviation Authority. Britain doesn't trust rightly or wrongly the airport security competency of any other country.
You would have to go through passport control in Heathrow, but you can go follow the appropriate flight connections route and not through the arrivals channel if you don't have bags to recheck.
The good news is there is no immigration between Dublin and London.
