The gotchas I was referring to are exactly what you have mentioned here....no direct train from Heathrow to Salisbury.

Thanks for letting me know I will need to plan on taking the tube I into London first before changing to a train that will take me out to Salisbury.

It is over half an hour quicker, and ten pounds cheaper to take the coach to Woking and train thence to Salisbury.
