In May we will be landing at LHR, arriving around 6:30a.m. We will then want to get to Portsmouth (or as close as possible) that same day. Would like to avoid having to go into London to catch an outbound train. Found AccesRail online but am confused. Do I board this train right there at LHR? AccesRail website isn't very user friendly, I'm not sure I can book independently, and I am having trouble getting details. Can anyone enlighten me or offer advice about getting to Portsmouth without going into London first? Do British Air agents book this service as an add on? Thanks.
I work on the British railways and I have never heard of AccessRail.
There are no trains at Heathrow except those two tourist trains, the Heathrow Express and the Heathrow Connect which link the airport to London Paddington Station in the heart of London.
There may be coaches which may help you.
two options:
national express coach all the way from Heathrow to Portsmouth
http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/airport/heathrow-airport/index.html
or coach from Heathrow to Woking http://www.nationalexpress.com/assets/uploads/pdf/timetables/R701.pdf
then train from Woking to Portsmouth http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/
forget Access Rail whatever that is
We were met at LHR by www.aquacars.co.uk, based in Portsmouth. Driver was prompt, in coat and tie, quite personable, and the ride was less than two train tickets to Portsmouth, not to mention the hassle of getting to the train. We were delivered to the front door of our hotel on the waterfront. Check them out.
I'd never heard of AccessRail either, this is apparently what they do:
