Heathrow to Canterbury

Hi, May 14 will be arriving at Heathrow Terminal 3, 1200pm. Easiest way to travel to Canterbury from Heathrow? Should I be purchasing tickets prior to travelling? Have only been to England once and never left London, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you Sher gb

I've looked at many posts regarding this situation as my husband and I are planning this same trip for June. From what I understand, you should be able to take the Piccadilly Line from the Heathrow Terminal 2 & 3 Underground Station to King's Cross St. Pancras tube station. Follow the signs to St. Pancras International. From there, there are high-speed trains to Canterbury. It looks like the train to Canterbury West (there are two train stations in Canterbury) departs from Platforms 11-13.

You can buy tickets ahead but risk losing the value if your flight timings are off. If you are joining the RS tour, a taxi from Canterbury West to the hotel costs about 6-7 pounds and is well worth it.

There is nothing wrong with taking the train - a lot of people do just that. But the easiest way is a private car service. The train will cost you less, but the hassle factor of getting the tickets, and then doing the train trip and the transfers while being jet lagged and on new turf is not something many people enjoy. Believe me, there is nothing better than having a private driver meet you in the terminal, wisk you to the car, and take you to Canterbury.

The driver we had drove quite safely, was most helpful loading our luggage, and commented on various things along the way. The car was clean, roomy, and well maintained. We would not hesitate to use the same service again. We've found that using a service based at the destination works well as they seem to know the best routes to take. The name of the service we used was Canterbury Airport Transfers. The web site (if my notes are correct) was taxicanterbury.co.uk/contact. The email was [email protected]. Shoot them an email, outline you needs, and see what you think about the cost compared to the hassle factor.
