We're coming in from Dublin -- arriving 8:45am at Terminal 5. Our flight to US leaves on Delta from Terminal 3 at 11:45. Carry-on bags only. Do we clear immigration at T5 or T3? Does the time at immigration and the 20 minute (?) train to T3 take up too much time? Will we have a problem with the 11:45 Delta flight?

You don't clear immigration. There is no immigration from Ireland to the UK. If you have the boarding pass for your Delta flight, just follow the Flight Connection signs and you will be bussed over to T3.
At T3, you will go through airport security.
If you don't have your boarding pass, you will have to exit T5 and take the train to T3.
Go to the Heathrow Flight Connections webpage, fill in your flight information and you will be given step by step directions.

Is this on one itinerary from Dublin to the US or did you buy two separate tickets?
If you’re taking the train to T3 from T5, you may have to go through security just like somebody who just arrived at Heathrow locally.
