Heathrow Express problem, questions

I have a little bit of a problem. I purchased r/t Advance Heathrow Express tickets March 6 for our trip June 6. At the time my hotel was close to Paddington station. Now I have changed hotels and will be very close to Kings Cross/St Pancras when I first arrive. Only the inbound ticket is a problem. Upon returning from Amsterdam in the middle of my trip, I will be at my original hotel and can use the return express tickets out of Paddington.
I am debating:
1) Take the Express into London and then transfer to the Piccadilly line on to my hotel? How do I do that? Is it more trouble than it is worth? Two adults traveling without children but it is our first trip to London and we will be jet-lagged. Too much to navigate?
OR
2) Forfeit the inbound tickets and take the Piccadilly Line directly from Heathrow to St Pancras? We are buying regular Oyster cards at the airport anyway so I keep telling myself I won't be losing much because that day's travel will be capped. But we will be tired from the flight and don't really look forward to an hour on the tube, but it won't kill us.

Advance tickets purchased after Feb 19 are non refundable but they are transferable. I paid 12.10 each/ $15.72 US, so it is not a ton of money, but I hate to lose it all. I would be willing to let them go for less than the face value, but I don't know how to go about it.

Any suggestions? Please help!

If you take Heathrow Express to Paddington, you can take the Circle Line or Hammersmith and City line to Kings Cross St Pancras. No need to double back to the Piccadilly Line.

Is there signage in the station that that will get us easily from the Express to the Tube lines? Or do we have to leave the station proper and walk a ways? I like to know the lay of the land before I set out. Thanks!

There is signage in Paddington and the day I was there, helpful TFL employees were standing about to help. Oyster covers the lines we suggested.

Look at the floor right when you leave the platform area for the Heathrow Express. You will see different "tracks" to follow that bring you to taxis, underground, etc. You simply follow the path.

Yes very easy to get to your tube platform. This is a terminus so the train pulls in and stops. If you continued in your direction of travel of the train you have lots of eateries and shops in front of you and access to the Bakerloo lines. Assuming you don't want the shops, walk back down the train platform in the opposite direction, this is where you will see signs to the yellow and pink lines. Take the first train that is going eastbound (the platform will indicate this you don't need a compass!). It will take about 10 minute ride to Kings Cross. If you get off the Heathrow Express and are desperate to pop to the shops (food store or chemist for example) you would be better off continuing to the circle line that departs from down the steps underneath the food court, but this line is shared with the green district line so you tend to find you wait longer.
