From an article on The Guardian online: "Unite warns of chaos for passengers when more than 500 of its members walk out for 24 hours in a dispute over pay. Ground handlers at Heathrow airport are to strike on Friday. Talks between the union and employers ASIG have broken down. The strike will run from 00.01am on Friday at terminals one, two and three, involving check-in and baggage handling staff."

Just a heads-up for any of you passing through Heathrow on Friday.
Rebecca, thanks for the heads up. We are flying into Heathrow on Friday and for the first time I was planning on checking a tote bag with some extra liquids. Not now! I've eliminated some items and rearranged things so no need to check now.
Note that this action only covers terminals 1, 2 and 3 and not 4 and 5.
Andrea, have a great trip! Glad to have helped to spare you the hassle!
Thanks Rebecca! We flew into terminal 2. I don't know if the baggage handlers actually went on strike, but I saw plenty of people in that terminal that had enormous bags. As we didn't check a bag I don't know any specifics.
Heathrow airport reported normal operations using drafted in staff. I haven't seen any independent reports though.
