Heathrow ATM

Does anyone know if the bank ATM’s in Heathrow terminal 5 dispense Euros?

I cannot speak from experience with Heathrow. It has been reported that most of the ATMs, if not all, are owned by a currency exchange company so I would avoid them all. In general we did not find dual currency ATMs in London. There was one in the terminal for the EuroStar. And the major train station might have them but not on the street.

Doing a search on the Link website in Terminal 5 all ATMs are run by Travelex and have a £2.50 withdrawal fee (excluding those in the BA Staff facility which are free!). They seem to mostly dispense euro too but it will be at their own rate, and using a USD card there might even be a double conversion.

If you want Euros in hand before arriving in Greece, you will probably do better to get them at home from your bank or AAA. More than likely, the exchange rate will be better than the commercial ATM's at Heathrow.

Start with something like 100 Euros and get the rest when you arrive in Greece. It's probably not going to cost you more than a few dollars in fees.

Marco - thank you for your reply. You are the only person who actually answered my question. I asked specifically about Heathrow T5. I know I can get Euros when I arrive in Greece. I know I can get them at home at a bank or AAA. I know to expect a bad exchange rate. I simply wanted to know IF there are ATM's that dispense Euros. The question was not related to an upcoming trip but rather related to changes in England related to Brexit. I just want to know for future reference. Thanks all.

Last September we were unable to find any ATM, at Heathrow, Travelex or other, that was labeled as dispensing euro. So I did not attempt to withdraw any there. I did find one at London City Airport, clearly labeled to dispense both £ and €, but it would not take my US debit card for euro withdrawals, only £).

If you dig down on the Heathrow website using “ATM Euro”, you are directed to this page, which describes ordering euro in advance, and collecting them from a Travelex website.

https://www.heathrow.com/at-the-airport/airport-services/currency-exchange#:~:text=You%20can%20now%20pre%2Dorder,method%20and%20follow%20the%20prompts.

Scroll down to “ATM Click and Collect”.

This suggests to me that this is a currency conversion, not a direct withdrawal, and subject to whatever exchange rate and service fees Travelex wants to impose. And perhaps not available for walk-up service, without pre-ordering.

If you search on Link.co.uk, the website of the UK ATM network, as a filter option you can select for availability of a particular currency. Many of the ATMs at Heathrow T5 are listed as dispensing Euro and USD. A few other currencies are available from a more limited number of them such as CHF and CAD (most in T2 where Air Canada operates from).

Now this undoubtedly is as a foreign exchange service and "pre-ordering" could possibly be at a better rate.

An alternative would be to order the euros you want online on the Travelex website in advance and arrange to pick them up from a Travelex desk. Their rates for walk-ups are poor but the online rates are usually pretty decent.

Thommi01....we don't read minds.

And no need to be rude.

BTW, Brexit has no effect on currency exchange.

And yet a lot of us tried to read minds. Instead of responding to the question we assumed we "read' what we wanted to see and responded with unrelated responses. Maybe if we quit "extrapolating" our responses into "well I checked every other post you made and I know that they are all related" and just responded to questions it would be better

I don't think tommi01 was any ruder then the "let me tell you how you should do your trip" group is at times.

Except a lot of the information that comes out may be helpful to someone else. This is an open forum, you throw a question out there, you sometimes get all kinds of info thrown back at you. You sift thru it and take out what matters to you.
