I like the aroundme app to find the closest restaurants, atms, etc. Technically, I think it is supposed to work overseas. Planning a trip to London and wondering if anyone has used this app or would recommend something similar. I have an android phone.
Following. Interested in this too.
I haven't used it.
In fact, I didn't know it existed.
As far as ATMs, walk down any high street or find any supermarket of the larger chains such as Waitrose, Coop, Tesco, Sainsbury. There are ATMs galore. In London, particularly, you will trip over them.
London is also thick with restaurants, both exclusive and those for the common man. Use your eyes or google. Does this app use data? Do you have a UK data plan?
google maps app shows nearby services (and how busy places are)
everything is everywhere in London
Another Brit that has never heard of it! It sounds like it may eat its way through expensive data very quickly, if it works here.
As has already been stated, even in rural parts, you can't go too far without seeing an ATM. I always use Trip Advisor to find restaurants or use recommendations from your hotel.
This is a description of the app "AroundMe quickly identifies your position and allows you to choose the nearest Bank, Bar, Gas Station, Hospital, Hotel, Movie Theatre, Restaurant, Supermarket, Theatre and Taxi."
AroundMe shows you a complete list of all the businesses in the category you have tapped on along with the distance from where you are." Yes, I could wander around, ask directions, etc. But that is a little like saying a visitor can find something if they look. Obviously, someone familiar with a neighborhood is going to find exactly what they are looking for a lot quicker and easier. It doesn't seem to eat up a lot of data on my phone, but keep my cell data turned off until I am actually using something that is using it. Not sure what kind of phone service I will be using on my trip yet.
