Passport number and next destination?
In all my years of traveling to Europe, I’ve never been asked this until now. I was going to check-in on-line to the Swan Hotel in Arundel, and this info is required
Thanks

That is an odd one. Spain is now requiring hotels to provide the name of their guest’s bank along with other info.
Kenko, that’s crazy!
Someone on another board said that hotels were asking that during Covid, for tracing. I get that, but now? I know it shouldn’t, but it bothers me

We've had numerous hotels in Europe over the years ask to see our passport at check in (in person) and back 20 years ago they kept them throughout your stay. I don't think we've been asked to input the info online check in for a hotel though...(answer not specific to Spain.)
Yes. When you check into a hotel in the UK, they often give you a registration form where you need to fill out your passport number and sometimes they also ask for your next destination.
I stayed in several hotels in Spain in February and was only asked to show my passport- the same it was in 2023. I would not be willing to give my banking info.
I’ve never been asked about the next destination in England.
Here is the legal requirement:
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1972/1689/made
It states:
4.—(1) Every person of or over the age of 16 years who stays at any premises to which this Order applies shall, on arriving at the premises, inform the keeper of the premises of his full name and nationality.
(2) Every such person who is an alien shall also—
(a)on arriving at the premises, inform the keeper of the premises of the number and place of issue of his passport, certificate of registration or other document establishing his identity and nationality; and
(b)on or before his departure from the premises, inform the keeper of the premises of his next destination and, if it is known to him, his full address there.
KD, it may be that I’ve had to do that, too, and just forgot - it’s been a few years. I didn’t have to go it in Bath recently, though

Laura, thanks
They didn’t ask for it in Bath recently. It’s possible I just forgot about being asked for passport info - I don’t recall being asked for next destination…it seems so personal
Thanks

I stay. in hotels in Spain for a total of about two months a year. Passport: Always. Bank info: Never.
It's worth noting that the registration requirement in the UK does not apply to citizens of Commonwealth countries, who are not classified as "aliens" in law.
This is from the Prmier Inn web site:
"Overseas guests, excluding Republic of Ireland and Commonwealth citizens, will be asked to complete a registration form and provide their identity card / passport details."
https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/terms/booking-terms-and-conditions.html
I'm not normally asked for passport, but in one hotel they asked and when I did pass it over they saw it was Australian and told me they didn't need it.
I was asked for my passport at check-in at a fancy shmancy hotel in the Polanco in Mexico City and begged off showing it to them b/c it was buried in my bag somewhere, and for the rest of my stay at that hotel they treated me like I was this close to being rendered to CECOT for my suspicious demeanor. Lucky that I didn't have any visible tattoos.
In some countries like Spain everybody has to show ID at hotels so the request will be more consistent.
In the UK it’s only certain overseas nationals who need to and many hotels won’t bother asking. The UK has no ID cards so there is no requirement to carry ID, and fewer times when you need to show ID here than in many other countries, although it’s becoming more common to be asked.
Hmmm, maybe the intent of having people provide their next destination is so that any property that gets left in the room after somebody checks out can be forwarded to that next place? Probably not …

Spain may be requiring hotels to provide guest's bank details but my experience has been that hotels are not requesting it from guests. All of my last few stays in Spain (most recent was December last year) all that was requested was my passport which has been the case ever since I started travelling there over three decades ago.
