We are extending a cruise and must travel from Harwich to Edinburgh. We would like to take a train. Does anyone know if we can do so without going back through London? Is Ipswich a possibility?

I see that the schedules are routing you via London, which means that's the fastest connection (7 hours with 1-2 changes). If you request Ipswich as a stopover point, you can get some options with about the same timing but 3 changes (Manningtree, Ipswich, and Peterborough). View details for each schedule to see the connection points, since some still include London.

Nope !!! Quickest and easiest way will be through London.
