My husband and I are both moderate Potter fans. We would like to do something related, but not spend our entire time. Would you recommend the studio tour or The Cursed Child on Thursday and Friday evenings? We won't be seeing any other shows except maybe a play at The Globe.
I haven't seen Cursed Child but the studio tour is a must-see for Potter fans. I"m not a fan but went with my husband and daughter.
My sister and I are massive HP fans and loved the studio tour! I'm not sure what moderate really means in regard to HP, but I would definitely pick the studio tour over The Cursed Child. We also saw Romeo and Juliet at the Globe and loved it! 5 pound groundling tickets, elbows on the stage, fantastic!!
I'll echo the recommendation for the studio tour. It was a day well spent. I'm a huge HP fan, but I'm not sure I could sit thru a play that required 2 nights to see it.
Studio Tour requires advance reservation so book well ahead for your date.
There have been rumors swirling that a movie of cursed child is in the works. If that’s the case, it’s a whole lot cheaper to pay for movie tickets than theater tickets. Of course the trade off is you may have to wait a couple years, or the movie may never materialize.
On an unrelated note, I did Universal Studios with my children two days ago and the Harry Potter worlds were absolutely spectacular. I was blown away by the level of detail. As an avid fan of the books since the late 90s, I can confidently say that they left no detail out.
I highly recommend the Studio Tour, also. My husband wasn't a fan before we went, and is now reading all the books in preparation for a follow up trip he requested. And yes, you need to book well in advance! You will love it.
I've done both - twice. Like you, I'm only a moderate fan, but we've had visitors with us who wanted to do it, and honestly, they're both brilliant.
Warner Bros Studio Tour is outside of London, so when you factor in all the travel time, etc, you need to allow a day. You'll want a minimum of three hours there, plus allow about 90 minutes either side.
The Cursed Child is so good, especially Part 1.
This isn't helping, is it? I don't know. I guess if I had to choose, I'd probably do the Studio Tour, but then it probably depends what you can get tickets for, so that might make the decision for you. The Studio Tour and Cursed Child both get booked up far ahead.
If you can only get tickets to Cursed Child Part 1, though, don't let that stop you. Cursed Child Part 2 is still excellent, but Part 1 is the best, and you can always read the script for Part 2 to see what happens. Part 2 is a lot darker.
Whichever you choose, you won't regret it.
Travel to the glass covered Leaden Hall Market place and look for the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron. Or better yet....take a London walk, this one:

I've read the books 2 times. My husband has 3 times. I've seen all the movies. We did Universal this past October and it is absolutely amazing. I've read Cursed Child. It's good, but not like the books.
I saw ”The Cursed Child”in London and I found it to be more enjoyable than I expected and the special effects were great. I haven’t been on the studio tour.
I've done both, and if you're only going to do one, I would recommend the studio tour.
