Hampton Court visit in October

We have been several times to London, but never to Hampton C Palace. I’m thinking a Sunday morning visit and return back to London in the afternoon. This would be end of October this year. If the weather is crappy, is there still lots to see/do inside HCP, to warrant a trip still? I have looked at the website, just looking for some personal experience. Would it be necessary to purchase an entry ticket in advance at that time of year,or just show up, or not in case weather is inclement? Best route for us? We are staying close to Pimlico Tube, on Belgrave Rd. Thanks

I was there a few years ago in the fall, but the weather was very warm. I did stroll around in outdoor spaces, but there was a lot to see indoors.

I recall that there are open courtyards but sheltered walkways between the different wings of the buildings. In remembering my visit, it was nicer, and longer, because I explored the grounds and gardens. But the most interesting things were indoors. Just my opinion, of course.

Was there last November. The weather was nice but cool and breezy. Even if it had been raining we still would have gone. There’s plenty to see indoors. Nothing is blooming that time of year in the gardens, so walking around them is more just to say you did it. After we left the palace we crossed the street and had Sunday roast at the Mute Swan before returning to London. If you’re going with someone, check at London’s Waterloo station ticket office (where you get the train to HC) to see if they still have the 2 for 1 deal. It saved us one admission. We did not purchase in advance and HC was not overly crowded.

I went in September and the weather wasn't too bad. Even if it is rainy or cold there is plenty to see inside. I was in London in May and I went back because I wanted to see more. It was worth it both times. If it is gloomy outside there is plenty to do inside and if it is cold go to the Kitchens where they keep a fire going to cook some meat. That will warm you up.

I would guess you don't need to buy a ticket, that part I have never done. I joined the Historic Royal Palaces as a member before my trip in September and used it to visit Hampton Court then and again in May.

One thing for you to know you can use your Oyster card to travel to Hampton Court and back on the train. You should be able to take the Victoria line to Vauxhall then straight onto Hampton Court.

Thanks, that’s pretty much what I was wondering. Now to find the best route.

The best way is take the Victoria Line from Pimlico to Vauxhall, go up to Vauxhall railway station and get a train to Hampton Court. You do the whole thing in under an hour.

Pete, the transport for London shows a walk to a bus after the train, and then a 2 minute bus ride. Do we just ignore the bus part and get off the train and walk right into Hampton court?
