GWR Railroad Sale and issues with GWR app

Stuart (isn31c) had posted something in one of my England threads about the Great Western Railway sale, but thought I would bring it to everyone's attention if you happen to be booking train tickets for spring travel. The GWR sale ends tomorrow (check link above for exact time) but sales are up to 50% off and you can book through April 26. For example, a ticket from London to Plymouth was only £33.

Also, I wanted to mention that I had downloaded the GWR app on my phone in order to store my ticket there, but could not log in. It was driving me crazy so I finally tweeted GWR on X, and got an almost instantaneous response:

The GWR app is UK-based, so it won’t be accessible overseas. You won’t have any trouble logging in once you arrive in the country. For peace of mind, you can use the PDF in the confirmation email to travel.

That made me feel better. I did think it was interesting that I was able to actually download the app. But I'm glad the problem is solved.

Yeah, I downloaded the app for our trip earlier this year, and tried a number of things to get it to work for me, finally had to opt to pick the ticket up at a counter there.

Sort of a waste in todays world, and does not seem to be a problem with the 10 or more rail apps I have loaded, well Renfre has some quirks.

I use a UK VPN to access to GWR app and it works fine. But it's not actually necessary- as Mardee notes, you can just book on the web site and have the tickets emailed to you.

I've got a £5 ticket from the sale, for a 4 hour ride, from Falmouth to Okehampton, as an example
