Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night--good place to see the fireworks?

My wife and I will be in London on November 5th, which we found out, is Guy Fawkes' Night. We'd like to find a great place to enjoy the fireworks, and don't mind this being our 'splurge' if we can find a restaurant or some organized way to do it without having to spend hours to save a spot in a super crowded location.

Any suggestions on a place to do this? In my youth spending hours cheek and jowl with drunk folks waiting for fireworks was considered a great time. Now I'd rather avoid it.

Cheers,
Scott

I've been in London twice during Guy Fawkes, and the the fireworks that happen aren't equivalent to a 4th of July type show. Instead it's more like a random launching of a single rocket from different directions throughout the night. It's very low-key compared to an elaborate choreographed show you might see a Disney World. Pick up a copy of that weeks Time Out weekly for a lising of all the Guy Fawkes event going on throughout the city.

Take a trip down to Lewes, unless you are offended by burning crosses and effigies of a pope being incinerated. Will be crowded though.

Thanks everyone for the great replies. I now have a better idea of what the night entails, as well as when it will occur.

I was there with high hopes on one such November evening, but without a firm plan, I did not see many fireworks.
