My husband and I are interested in a day trip from London (early October 2014) that would optimally include Windsor, Stonehenge, and Salisbury Cathedral. We don't mind a group trip (bus/coach) and also would consider a private driver. The tours I've found so far include Bath which we're not particularly interested in (already been). I would love recommendations or guidance on resources to help me locate a guide. We would also consider handling the London to/from Windsor part ourselves and tour out of Windsor if that's possible. Thank you.
You need to go to www.walks.com. On their main page, there is a tab you can click on to hire a private tour guide. Here is their page for the Salisbury & Stonehenge trip. They go every Tuesday April 22 through October 14. http://www.walks.com/Standalone/Stonehenge__Salisbury_Tour/default.aspx If I were you, I would take this London Walks trip, then do Windsor on your own another day. Easy to take a train from London to Windsor for the day.
I agree with the London walks recommendation (www.walks.com). I have done the Stonehenge/salisbury day trip as well as many of their other walks and I have never had a bad guide. It's a lot cheaper than a bus tour and also more enjoyable as there is the opportunity for interaction with other travelers.
It is very easy to do Windsor on your own. It's very easy to get there on the train. Windsor is very charming and has a hop-on/hop-off bus that is very cheap.
Thanks for recommendations. London Walks definitely on my radar now.
Also check out sallybotwright.co.uk/.... She is amazing.
We have taken Gray Line day tours to Stonehenge, Windsor, around London, etc. We have been very happy with the tours. Gray Line subcontracts the tour through Evans, Evans Tours. You can go on-line to Gray Line and see the tour selection.
