Guernsey Visit

Hi all,
Just starting the planning of a possible excursion from London (overnight I think) to Guernsey, then onto France. Looking for someone who has been there before, and has any comments related to the bus system (can I use that versus getting a car?). And is it easy to get to a main train station in France from the ferry. Would Jersey be a nice side trip?

I love history and nature

Thanks!

Guernsey native here!
You need to look at Condor Ferries, you can get the Fast Ferry from Poole to Gsy then on to Jersey then on to St Malo. St Malo train staion is a half hour walk from the port, and there are usually two direct trains aday to Paris, or loads where you change in Renne.
We have very small roads which seem to scare some visitors - no idea why(!), but a very expanse and good bus service. I would recomend staying in St Peter Port to get the best from it. But if you are walkers it only takes an hour and a half to walk from St PP to the West Coast (Vazon).
I would recomend, Castle Cornet, Victor Hugos House, the Occupation Museum, The Guernsey Tapestry, The Folk and Costume Museum and Fort Gray. So the south coast cliffs are stunning walking especially from St PP to Petit Bot.
Day trips i would recomend the island of Herm and Sark for a total contrast. Cant comment on Jersey as has only been once for 24 hours 15 years ago!
When are you planning your trip?

OK, this is my usual response when someone mentions taking a ferry between England and France by way of the Channel Islands:

I realize that I have been uncommonly unlucky, but I have booked five such ferries (all on the St. Malo route), and two of them were canceled. All trips fell between May and August, so we're not dealing with violent winter weather here. The most recent occurrence was in 2017, and the ferry didn't run for three days. Something like that could cause serious problems for folks on a tightly scheduled trip. EasyJet has flights between London-Luton and St. Helier, Jersey. Probably there are other options for getting to or from the islands. Definitely do some research so you know what your back-up plan is, and monitor your email so you'll learn of any cancellation right away.
