Guernsey island in English Channel

Has anyone visited this island ? If so, did you drive around or use the buses? I will be there for only a day off a cruise ship so I’d like to maximize my time there, or did anyone use a tour guide for a few hours, if so who?

Hi, as a local i would say use our excelent bus service, very easy and not expensive. If i remember right the bus round the island only take an hour and a half. How big is the boat you are ciming in on?
Also if you want to see Victor Hugos House where he wrote Les Mis you will need to pre book your tickets as its guided tour only. Its an amazing house, unlike any thing you will see any where else in the world. No need for a bus for that, its s short walk up hill from where the tenders dock.
Just a point, its Guernsey, no need for Island☺️
Let me know if i can help.

We did a great tour from our cruise ship on bicycles that allowed us to see more of the island, including some old German bunkers.

I visited the island last summer for a week. It is a charming island and you will love it. The buses are great once you get the idea but if you are only there for a day, I would suggest you do a tour with a local. We did two tours, both excellent. https://www.tourguernsey.com/ I would highly recommend the three-hour tour. If photography is your thing then Mark at https://www.guernseyphototours.com/ is wonderful. They will arrange to pick you up at the Albert Pier in St. Peter Port. I would also recommend you watch the movie The Guernsey Potato Peel Society with Lilly James. It is an excellent introduction to the island and it will help you understand what happened to its people in WW2. (It is a romantic historical movie). You will love Guernsey. St. Peter Port is very pretty. I even plan to go back one day to stay in a country cottage. It is like a vacation away from a vacation.

We LOVED our day in Guernsey. Only knew a little about the island from reading, The Potatoe Peel Society, about WWII. we had a great day. We pre-booked the tour of Victor Hugo house in English. It is a very, very interesting home. Definitely worth the few Euro price. We also went to Mass at a French speaking Church. We walked to Castle Cornet and took a tour. We never used the bus, just our two feet. A warning though, the island is very hilly.

Hi from Wisconsin,
Let me also recommend the book and movie, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. My wife read the book and enjoyed it. We both watched the movie and it was quite good. WWII and aftermath.
