grocery stores/convenience stores--central London

Hello all,
I am WELL aware that there are a number of convenience/grocery stores in London. I am not trying to "advertise" the place :) but we'll be in Strand Palace Hotel, in, of course, the strand. Any decent convenience/and/or grocery stores you can recommend? we would be interested in (for example) a decent pre-made sandwich, etc for a picnic at Greenwich, bottled water, etc....

many thanks!

Eric

Boots is oposite the hotel, they offer meal deals with a sandwich, crisps and a bottle of water however I'd be more inclined to walk down the road a short while and buy something from Leon or Pret a Manger.

There's a Tesco's Express and Gregg's about a block east of your hotel.

But, I would go to Paul's Bakery about a block west. Great sandwiches, salads and pastries.

There is a Pret almost opposite, Sainsbury's, Boot's and Tesco's all within 5 minutes walk, Leon just opposite to the right (my favourite) plus a plethora of independent cafes and sandwich bars.
