Gosport, UK travel for business

Hi, I will be traveling from the US to the UK for a two-day business meeting in Gosport (near Portsmouth) at the end of September. I am considering extending my stay for an extra day or two to do some sightseeing.

Questions: For one or two days os sightseeing, would I be better off heading back to London after my meetings and spend my remaining time there? That being the case, would public trans (train/bus/ferry/taxi) be a better option between London and Gosport than getting a car (I have never driven in the UK, and am not keen on doing so).

Thanks

Judy

Hi Judy,

The Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth has several nautical sites, such as the HMS Victory, The Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior. I really enjoyed the WWI era HMS M.33 coastal cruiser.

That being said, London has much more to offer. There are frequent trains (4/hour) from Portsmouth Harbour to London. See www.nationalrail.co.uk for schedules and ticket prices.

We have dear friends in Gosport and have spent time there, it's a nice town. We've also enjoyed Portsmouth, but I'd much rather spend the little time you have in London. So many more fun things to see and do there. We've driven from Gosport once, and taken the train a couple of times... I'd much rather take the train.

It's a 2 hr 15 min drive from Gosport to London. Nothing will be faster (and less expensive?) than a train.
