Gordon Ramsay Restaurants

Has anyone been to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant recently? Is it worth it?

We ate at the one near Berkley Square ( which is now closed ) several years ago. The food was good and the wait staff pleasant. My husband's main course had a piece of foil imbedded in it. It was sent back and replaced with new one and they offered free desserts. The meals were overpriced.

Does he scream at his workers at his restaurant like he does on TV?

We met him at Heathrow Airport recently, he was in one of his restaurants there (Plane Food), not eating anything and in hindsight I know why! He greeted everyone who entered and had a long chat with my youngest son, quite a pleasant bloke at the time although to be fair it wouldn't have been good PR to be insulting to customers at one of his restaurants.

I have eaten at a couple of his places in London with clients and the food was good, but very expensive. I don’t like his ego, so I wouldn’t personally give him my custom. There are plenty of options in London that are as good or better.

Yes! Please do not go to Petrus. It was horrid! My friend and I planned on his restaurant being a highlight of our trip. It cost $150 per person (yes you read that right). The best part about it was the half bottle of wine (a mere $55--barf). The food was really sub-par and had zero flavor. We ordered scallops as a starter and they came out raw. I ordered some lamb, which was still bleeting (i.e. bleeding). My friend requested her steak rare, but cooked, and well, it was blue and cold! The dessert was an underwhelming mouse. $300 later I decided I would never re-visit that nightmare again. My friend and i still talk about how bad it was! They did have excellent service...(on a side note) but that doesn't compensate for the bad food!

Jaeson , May we please know if you complained to the waiter about the raw scallops, the “bleating” lamb and the blue steak? Also, did you not know the wine would cost $55 when you ordered it?

I'm not sure I'd enjoy a mouse for dessert, underwhelming or not!

I ate at Maze Grill Mayfair in 2015. The food was fantastic, the ambiance lovely - service was a little lacking but I was a table of one so will assume they had bigger ticket affairs to tend to. Ramsey was onsite - clearly handling an issue in the kitchen (no yelling) and upon exit, walked very quickly, head down without so much as a glance at any table. I ordered a la cart and came out under my planned budget of 45GBP. I didn't get the feeling of warmth or welcome but do plan to take my mom to one of his places on our next visit this fall. Looks like Maze has maybe been through some change since 2015 so not sure if it will be a reservation there or somewhere else.

Edited to add that my mom and I visited Jamie's Italian in Covent Garden in 2016 - food and service were fantastic but the restaurant was a little loud, crowded and chaotic.

I ate at the London in NYC in 2009. It was my son's 16th birthday. The food was good (a little too French and a little too fussy for my every day tastes) and well presented. The staff were outstanding. The meal came under what I had budgeted and I gave a generous tip. My son and I were invited to tour the kitchen which was great. There were only about 7 tables and the other diners were whispering , wondering how we got into the kitchen. We had a great time.
To me he seems like an all around great guy. His TV bark I think is a lot worse than his bite.
