You did say Notting Hill and inexpensive in the same breath, didn't you? Notting Hill is the home of Gelato Mio where the starting price for a small ice cream is £4 - about $6.00.
It is rare to find inexpensive anywhere in that area in my experience. Chains will likely have similar prices to their mates elsewhere in London but local places may well not.
Supermarkets are everywhere. Google Tesco or Sainsbury or Waitrose near your address for an interactive list.
Not a restaurant , but I love the food from Ottolenghi on Ledbury Rd. They have lovely prepared foods that you can takeaway. Mr Christians on Elgin Crescent is a great little deli with nice breads, cheese, meats, and many unique items.
The vibrant Bayswater neighborhood is right next door. Masala's is good. As an aside I encourage you to have a pint at the Daniel Gooch pub and tavern.
Absolutely gorgeous and maybe I was early or it was an off night but the evening I went in following the San Francisco 49ers trashing of the Jacksonville Jaguars there were two regulars playing pool (might have been snooker). Four other regulars seated around the large fire place watching a soccer match. One couple had to have been in their 80's and had obviously been coming there for years for their nightly meet up with friends. It was bliss and as I said, an incredible looking pub.
