Good lodging for senior, non-drivers in Windermere in Lake District

My husband and I will be train/bus traveling to the Lake District on the 23rd to 25th of Aug. We will be traveling with a lady friend and we are all seniors who can walk but not long distances. Has anyone stayed in Windermere at a nice place that is close to walk to restaurants and sights. Also are taxis available. We want to make use of Mountain Goat Tours and Rick Steves does not provide Windermere advice in his book.
Thank you in advance!

Yes there are taxis. And buses. And, as you have found, the old proverbial Mountain Goat. Best of all are the boats which criss cross and travel the length of Lake Windermere.

I've never stayed in Windermere, leave that to others.

If you stay in Bowness it will be just a little less crowded and flatter - Windermere station is at the top of hill.

But you should have had your accommodation worked out months ago, I'm afraid. I hope you can find something you can enjoy and is reasonably within your price range. The weekend you are there is the weekend of the August Bank Holiday, and August is about 11 or 12 on the dial that only goes up to 10 in the Lake District, then they really turn it up for the Bank Holiday.

Sorry.

Please jump on it ASAP and let us know what you have found - then we can help with specifics. Good luck.

Thank you Nigel and Ramblin' On!
I was able to reserve 2 rooms at the guest house you suggested. Looking forward to visiting the Lake District!
