Good affordable hotels in London Soho

I’m thinking of booking the Mecure Bloomsbury hotel with Trivago Does anyone know of any other good hotels in Soho. I plan to attend the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championship in June. My planned dates are june21-July 3, 2023

Most hotels in this location are going to be expensive. I think that if you’ve found a hotel that is affordable and looks ok then I’d just go with that.

My suggestion is to book directly with the hotel. Less headaches.

Is there any reason you want to book through Trivago rather than directly?

I don’t see a Mercure actually in Soho; Google offers this one in Bloomsbury. Is this it?

You may get benefits by booking direct, especially if you sign up for the Accor loyalty program.

Also, did you confirm that there are good transport connections to the actual swim venues?

The closest Tube station to the London Aquatics Center (main swimming venue) is Stratford, which is served by the Central and Jubilee Tube lines, as well as by Docklands Light Rail, the London Overground, and National Rail.

I don’t see anything close to the other venue (Britannia Leisure Centre in islington) but maybe I am just not searching the map correctly.

Soho is about shopping and night life. Is that your travel style?

June and July are VERY touristy months. As it is London and its Summer, accommodation rates will be high.

Been traveling to London for decades. Bit of advice: never book anything through a 3rd party like Trivago or Expedia. Always book directly. Save headaches.

The hotel is well located but TripAdvisor reviews all over the place.

INSTEAD Research the availability of Vancouver Studio Apartments in the Bayswater neighborhood. 1/2 hour from Queensway on the Central Line to the Aquatics Center.

OR The Premier Inn Farringdon. 20 minutes on the Elizabeth Line to the Aquatics Center.

To the Britannia Leisure Centre the closest tube station is Old Street on the Northern Line (Bank Branch). From Russell Square (the closest station to the Mercure Bloomsbury) that is one stop north on the Piccadilly to King's Cross, then 2 stops south on the Northern Line, then about 3/4 mile walk.
It is an awkward 3 bus connection so that seems to be the best connection.
Essex Road station on the Northern City national rail route is a bit closer but that would be another change at Moorgate, not worth it to save a minimal distance.
From the PI at Farringdon you have a 6 minute walk to the Bus 76 stop at Little Britain, then a 7 minute walk to the Brittania Leisure Centre from the stop at 60 Malden Road, Camden, so that seems the more accessible hotel (that bus runs from Waterloo to Tottenham Hale station)

All of my swimming events are at the London Aquatics center near the Stratford tube station. The closest tube station to the Mercure is Holburn

Central Line will take you directly from Holborn to Stratford in 15 minutes.

Holborn, not Holburn. Well that's fine then, Central line then straight to Stratford from Holborn.

If you look at it on a map (the hotel's own website, google and A to Z for those of us old fashioned enough to still use A to Z) and Russell Square is certainly the closer, but that's on the wrong line for Stratford. Holborn is only a short walk away anyway.

If you were arriving from Heathrow you would arrive at Russell Square as that is a direct Piccadilly line train.

I always check the price of a hotel on their own website but booking.com or hotels.com are nearly always cheaper. I’ve never had a problem using these sites. Obviously, Premier Inn you have to book direct.

FYI--the Stratford tube stop is below the Westfield Stratford shopping mall. A very big mall. Located on the grounds of the mall are two Hyatt Hotels. (in the same building.) It's a short walk to the swimming venue.

Plenty of restaurants and shops but virtually no nightlife if that is something you're looking for. I've stayed at the property when it was a different brand.

They still have rooms for your dates showing at about 300 GBP per night.

If you're OK with a tiny room, we stayed at the Hub by Premier Inn in Soho last April and found it met all of our needs just fine. It's on a little alleyway right off the main Soho area.

Good luck!
