Going back to London for the 8th time-where should I stay?

I love London and am so excited to return in October. I like to stay in different areas so I can experience something new. I'm traveling with a friend and we're sharing a room so would love to keep the budget on the low side like Premier Inn type budget so less than $250 a night. I have stayed in the Soho/Covent Garden area (Airbnb), Holborn (Airbnb), Ealing (PI & too far), Victoria Station (Cherry Court and Luna Simone), Paddington (PI Hub) and Hammersmith (PI). I would like somewhere safe, obviously, as I love going to shows and will be coming home late, close to public transport and good places to eat. I would love to hear everyone's favorite areas to stay and why so thanks so much in advance.

Covent Garden, St. Giles and Soho are all close to theaters, clubs and restaurants. Bloomsbury is a nice neighborhood, and only a little further out. I’ve stayed in Bloomsbury and walked everywhere, only taking the tube back to the Tottenham Court Road station at the end of the day.

Think about one on the South Bank. Good transport links, on the river, walk over the bridge to Covent Garden, local restaurants, concerts and theatre.

Have a look at Marylebone and Fitzrovia. These are the areas between Edgware Road, Euston Road, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street.
Central with good transport links, restaurants etc but a bit quieter. If I could live anywhere in London I would live there.

Well, there's the Premier Inn County Hall, which is across the Thames near Southbank. I stayed there last year, and loved the area. It's still very close to the major sites in London. For example, Westminster Abbey is a quick 10-minute walk across the Westminster Bridge from there. There are lots of restaurants and cafes in the area. You're close to Borough Market, Southwark Cathedral, and all those beautiful bridges that cross the Thames.

I attended a show while I was there, and it was a lovely walk in the evening to get to the theatre and back. Waterloo station is a short walk away, as well as the Westminster tube station, so you're within easy reach of public transport.

Another vote for Southbank. On all of our previous trips we stayed on the north side of the Thames. Last November we stayed 6 nights at the H10 Waterloo and kept asking ourselves why it took us so many years to discover Southbank. We liked the general neighborhood vibe and enjoyed walking so much we found ourselves crossing the river on foot more than we expected. Several times we walked past the Premier Inns in the neighborhood and thought that those hotels are particularly well-located.

We also stayed in Southbank and really liked the location. We were at the PI Waterloo Westminster which is across the street from PI county hall where Mardee stayed.

I'll chime in with a vote for the Premier Inn County Hall. The location can't be beat, it is close to so many things and also close to tube stops. And the price is good too. I've stayed their on two separate trips and will probably stay again.

How about Notting Hill? Less convenient than some of the locations mentioned here, but still good transportation links. Lovely vibe, food and shops. I have stayed at the edge of this neighborhood in Bayswater. Which is also as option as it gives even more transportation options, and walking access to Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park.

Have you thought about Belsize Park and Hampstead, both on the Northern Line so easy access to the West End? I think there's a PI in Belsize Park. Excellent food in Hampstead, and getting away for a walk on Hampstead Heath or Primrose Hill is fab.

Shame that Ealing is too far - I would have plumped for Richmond / Kew. Yup, there's a PI there too. Claudia from the Land of :LA stayed there.

Slight correction to my friend Nigel’s post. I’ve stayed in Ealing but Not at the PI. Stayed with a friend who was producing a show being filmed at the famed Ealing Studios. Walked past the PI but never stayed there. Liked Ealing and surrounding environs.

Last visit ( November 24 ) stayed at 2 places: 63 Bayswater ( where I’ve often stayed) and at the Club Quarters at Lincoln Fields in Holborn. Got a good rate and enjoyed the weeks I was there. Didn’t partake in their breakfasts but did like having an elevator, small fridge, free coffee and tea and water bottle refills available 24/7 in the lobby. Also liked the location and staff. 10 minutes at most to Holborn Tube.

A neighborhood I enjoyed a few trips ago was the stretch of Shepherd’s Bush Road in the radius around Brook Green. It’s walkable to Hammersmith station with convenient groceries, coffee shops, and restaurants.

Last trip I spent a few nights near Barons Court. I liked the area; however the cafes around the station are more for morning coffee/lunch rather than for dinner.
